I will never have a problem with recap songs being butchered. They will played again later in the show.

Premiere should make full top 3 recaps that started in Feb. 1979 shows when they have a full top 3 recap of all 3 songs scoped or something.

Exactly. 🙂 For those wondering, Premiere butchered it. Premiere should make full top 3 recaps that started in Feb. 1979 shows when they have a full top 3 recap of all 3 songs scoped or something. Which would remove about 10 minutes per first hour of those shows. Not exactly a smart move at this time. Now, had there been the foresight in 1979 that these shows might ever be replayed, they could have made the recap simply with droppieces, which would have left room in the original shows for 2 or 3 more 'extras' throughout the countdown.

Even though we were ^ 4hrs and no longer had #1s of the 60s/70s segment to eat up time, this week in 1982, the AT40 staff had butchering a Man On Their Mind.

Foreigner should change the name of their tune to Hot Butchered after what was done to it this week in 1978.

This time in 1978 was definitely overdue for a four hour show! Most songs were near or over four minutes, and in three hours, that would mean 13 songs plus Casey's narration as well as commercials would mean CUT CUT CUT!

The Butcher Shop special of the day might be a new record, twice in the same show! Elt's 'Jeannie was hacked up in the 8/16/80 top three recap. Someone on the staff must have been so proud of their work they aired the same sliced up version in the countdown.

So much so that on this week's 8/5/78 show, A Taste of Honey's song might as well have been titled "Boogie Oogie."

I've often wondered why the Long Distance Dedications began specifically in August 1978. By that time AT40 had been approved for expansion to four hours (Billboard announced it in May), and they were looking for ways to fill the extra time, but couldn't the listener's story of Desiree and the associated Neil Diamond song have waited about six more weeks instead of necessitating even more editing?
Incidentally, maybe we'll hear 8/26/78 as a standalone this year? It hasn't been played by itself since 2011, and the last such 1978 show was in early June.

The final original run Casey show of 8/6/1988 on AT40: The 80's is where you hear Denise Lopez's "Sayin' Sorry (Don't Make It Right)" and Pat Benatar's "All Fired Up" each with a verse and chorus missing.
