It seems like every time I heard it during its run, This Time I'm In It For Love was just slaughtered, including this week's 1978 show. Even though the Player single edit ran only 3:25, I guess this is an indication of just how squeezed for time the AT40 staff was pre 4hr expansion.

They made a cruel edit to Steely Dan's "Peg" in some shows from its chart run in 1978, leaving out the second verse and first chorus.

I know the 3-hour 1978 shows contain a lot of edits, and most of the time I hardly notice, but that song was totally butchered this week.

"Hotel California" by The Eagles is a good example-There were weeks when you heard an edited version.

I'm not sure if Shaun Cassidy's "Hey Deanie" was ever played in full during its chart run (Nov 1977-Feb 1978). Every or almost every week the second verse and chorus was cut out--for a song that isn't very long to start with. The complete song was heard when it was a LDD (actually more of a fan letter to Shaun) in October 1978, in one of the first four hour shows.

I would have to say that "Year Of The Cat" by Al Stewart was butchered every time I heard it on AT-40.They would even butcher the shorter single edit

Going from an admittedly faded memory, I don't think any song was 'butchered' as regularly or as extensively as Barry White's "It's Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next To Me" was during it's 1977 chart run.

Am I wrong or wasn´t "I´m so excited" by The Pointers edited again and again in the fall of 1984 ?

I don't recall it being a constant target, not in the original shows anyway (which I have), but maybe they were in the Premiere versions. I'll have to go back and listen to the originals; maybe a time or two but certainly not to the degree of some 1977-1978 songs or Billy Idol's "Eyes Without A Face".

"Hotel California" by The Eagles is a good example-There were weeks when you heard an edited version. The only week I can think of that "Hotel California" wasn't edited was its second week in the 40, which was 3/19/77. There may have been another week where they let it play out, but I don't remember if there was. I know that even when it was played at #1 on 5/7/77, it had the second verse chopped. Also from around that same time, Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams" got chopped quite a bit too.

"The Way It Is" by Bruce Hornsby got the axe the majority of times it was played. So did "Move Away" by Culture Club. So did "The Edge of Heaven" by Wham. I'm thinking each of those songs were only played in full once or twice during their time in the 40.

At least they always played the right side of those singles, which can't be said for another #1 hit of the time, Marvin Gaye's "Got To Give It Up". Part 1 was the hit, and about four or five times on its move up the chart Part 2 (essentially an extended jam without much song structure) was played--and only a relatively small part of it.

If, then most likely on its way down (especially 11/17 84 and 11/24/84). I still remember that a few weeks later in the year-end-countdown I heard the (for me more familiar) version at #78.

"You Better You Bet". I believe this song was edited every week it was on the chart. The third verse was always left out.

I was re-listening to the 1977 AT40 year end show and the worst edit I ever heard in my life came during the song--Whispering by Dr. Buzzard's Savannah Band (#95); after Casey does his intro for the song it sounds like somebody bumped the turntable and the song skips to the part where the lead singer begins. However, I listened to a copy of the song I have on CD and found that the terrible edit is actually the way the song was released. This was never one of my favorite songs growing up so I just kind of ignored it but after hearing it the other day, I'll never forget it.
