Paul,I received the book today-I thought that Kim Bloxdorf's introduction was rather touching-I can't wait to devour the information contained within its pages.

I just finished going through the artist section of the 1990-2022 Pop book. And yes that introduction that mrjukebox alluded to is very well written. I had written in the What show are you listening to thread about all the songs from an entire album making the chart. Have not made it through the rest of the book so see if such a listing was made but I already know it has happened and on many occasions. In a related situation, I am reminded of what happened just over a year ago when Taylor Swift became the first artist to occupy all positions in the top 10 the same week. What is bizarre about that is it appears that each one of those hits peaked at the position it was at that week in November 2022. I am amazed at how many artists have 50 or more hits listed but have only 1 or 2 that made the top 40 with many of them only bubbling under. And then of course there are the 3 artists who really tallied up a bunch of hits. Of course the Glee Cast leads with their 283 hits. Drake is actually the most impressive of these artists with his 238 hits because he has many big hits. The artist that actually comes up with a worse percentage of top 10 hits than the Glee Cast is Youngboy Never Broke Again who had 165 listed hits but only one top 10! Finally you can see how the playing of Christmas music has really ramped up over the last few years when you look at "All I Want for Christmas is You" and "Rockin Around the Christmas Tree". The eligibility of Christmas hits charting evidently resumed in 2013 and both of these hits failed to come anywhere the top 10 the first few years. But then by 2018, both made the top 10 and starting in 2019, both have hit #1 or #2 every year since. That shows how Christmas music has become massive on the airwaves here in December the last few years. Anyway, a great book. It is a must have for those that have a lot of Joel Whitburn books, even for those that are not into the music played during the years covered. I am into a lot of that music (obviously with all the 90s and 2000s shows that I listen to).

I finished going through the rest of the book. I was surprised when I saw Drake at #2 and Taylor Swift at #5 among the top artists of all time. They have benefited from the streaming factor but Drake's 76 digital platinum hits goes a long way in validating his ranking. You can see how the top genre of music each decade played out when you look at the top 20 artists of each decade. In the 2000s, the entire top 20 was made up of hip-hop/R&B and country artists(hip-hop/R&B with 16 of the 20). The highest AC/rock/dance artist being Kelly Clarkson at #21. Whereas in the 90s, there were 13 hip-hop/R&B artists with Madonna being the highest AC/rock/dance artist at #3 and in the 2010s, there were 11 hip-hop/R&B artists in the top 20 with Taylor Swift the highest AC/rock/dance artist at #2. No country artists anywhere near the top 20 in either the 90s or the 2010s. Hip-hop/R&B and country dominated the 2000s though. And I see that hits debuting at #1 has really proliferated since the 20s began.

I would love to see an updated version of "Top Adult Hits"-The last one was back in 2007. It's on our radar. I actually started working on it a couple years ago but got pulled off for the Top Pop Singles project(s). The problem with the AC book is that it's not a very big seller. We have hundreds of the old ones still left in our warehouse. I'm thinking MAYBE in a couple of years we'll do an update.

We have a few projects lined up for 2024:
1. An updated Pop Annual. We are considering starting with 1950 (instead of 1955) and running all the way up thru 2023. After Top Pop Singles, this book is our biggest seller.
2. A 2010-2019 Hot 100 chart book. Reprints of the actual Hot 100 charts. This is our most requested title. We have the charts ready to go, we just need to work out an agreement with Billboard on how to present the unpublished charts and also how to handle the charts once they went to 2-3 pages per chart.
3. An updated Country Singles book. We sold out of the previous edition, so we know there is demand for this book.

Paul,I'm glad you're coming out with a new edition of Pop Annual-Here's a suggestion:I have a previous edition called "The Hot 100 Annual" which goes up to 2005-Joel did a recap of all the major news stories, hit movies,TV shows,& sports highlights for each year-It would be great if you added that particular feature.

I am especially interested in the Pop Annual.

We're discussing adding the "Time Capsules" back in. Maybe not for every single year. Maybe a recap of each half-decade, still haven't decided exactly how we're going to do it.
