Hmmm, apparently I hadn't mentioned this before.
The Top 100 of 1992 had the New Jack Radio Mix of Michael Jackson's "Remember the Time":

The music background of this remix reminds me of the music background for Michael's "Remember the Time" follow up called "In The Closet". Funny you should mention that. That song also had this remix played: (When I posted for "Remember the Time", I'd only listened to and checked Part 2 of the Top 100, rather than the full countdown. ) Side note: It's just tagged as a Radio Edit, which is also the case on its promo CD, which I really don't get why since it's distinctly different from the song's regular single version (which is what was played otherwise).

For the 3rd. AT40: The 70's 10/30/1976 OPTIONAL EXTRA of "Car Wash" by Rose Royce, the long album version was played.

I think it was mentioned in maybe the 80's thread, but Naked Eyes' "Promises Promises" had an odd and seldom heard version played on the 8/27/83 show. Not sure where that one comes from, but it had a slightly different arrangement with some different lyrics. I think that week was the only time they played that version--all other weeks that "Promises Promises" appeared in the top 40, it was the typical version that was played on the radio and in the song's video.

If the lyrics go, "You keep saying you and me / Are not your style or cup of tea," that's the original album version. I had it on vinyl.

Here's another example where the version of a song heard on the original show was replaced by Premiere with a remake/re-recording. From the 80's show discussion thread: I don't think I've ever heard that version of Stacy Lattisaw's "Let Me Be Your Angel" before (on the 11/8/1980 show). It sounds a bit like a later remake of the song as her voice sounds more mature. I made a comparison, and these are the results. Original program: [Clip Removed] Premiere's edited version: [Clip Removed] What i can conclude: Definitely they are two different versions of the same song.

11/5/88: Shadoe plays a montage mix for "The Locomotion" - starting with Kylie Minogue's current hit, then switching to Little Eva's original, then switching to Grand Funk Railroad's cover, then finishing with Kylie.

It may not be so much "odd" as "something different from the norm". ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Brings up an interesting question...how many times were montages used instead of the normal single version? I seem to remember AT doing it for Bette and "Wind Beneath My Wings" as well. And I wanted to say Casey did it for "Always On My Mind" in 1988 but maybe he just played some snippets of previous recordings before playing PSB's version.

In 1988 when Suave's "My Girl" (a remake of the Temptations song) was on the AT40 charts, Casey (a few months before the Shadoe Stevens takeover) could have done a montage of the other charted on Billboard's Hot 100 or other Billboard chart "My Girl" versions (Temptations, Bobby Vee, Ami Stewart/Johnny Bristol, Hall and Oates with Ruffin and Kendrick) bookended by the Suave version.

I believe he did play a montage of snippets of the other versions of "Always On My Mind" before playing that version. I think it was in the 4/9/88 show or the week before, but it was when it was climbing.

I seem to remember AT doing it for Bette and "Wind Beneath My Wings" as well. That happened on 7/1/89. And "Always on My Mind" was indeed 4/9.
