Some people have posted on XM411 that they have heard 80s on 8 DJ Rick Stacy and 60s on 6 DJ Phlash Phelps announce recently that XM will begin broadcasting AT40 on 70s on 7 and 80s on 8 in August. There is also word that they will begin with a marathon on the first weekend.
I don't know whether they are telling the truth or not or if this is a hoax. I will believe this when I hear it myself and even then I'll be skeptical until I hear the shows there. Nothing on the XM website. I am a bit skeptical but will be happy if this does happen. I hope they won't burn people out with those marathons as they did in 2003.
Check out XM411 if interested.

Why is it that I fall for this topic every time a new thread appears?

This is now official and has been annouced/confirmed by Premiere. It will start August 4th and will be one or two shows per week.
many of you guys deal shows with Shannon Lynn, who has been remastering them for XM. He has also confirmed the above after talking to Premiere.
Great news! Great news!
I have both XM and Sirius as I love both for various reasons... but this is definately a BIG point for XM.
definately exciting!

Maybe as BIG and EXITING as it was the last time, when everybody bought this box, just to see AT40 was dropped after a few weeks, because other listerners was bored and they just found out that the Billboard fees were also BIG ( something no one else would have known before of course ) First I prefer to wait until it finally runs on XM. I would never believe anything else before it finally runs. Second I think everybody has to see how long it will work. If it matches with the critical first 2 months or so, we could have a solid basis to hear the shows again ..... at least some of them, because I don't believe there would be a wide variety of shows.

As I have posted elsewhere, I hope the show lasts for two reasons. Number 1, obviously I like AT40. Number 2, XM's music channels for the most part suck...at least the ones I listen to. I hate it stations play just music, no DJ, no personality, nothing...just basically a jukebox with commercials. Thats what XM's music channels remind me of minus the commercials. I do think the show will last this time since it will only air once or twice a week after this "marathon" thing is over. Most complaints last time is it aired once or twice a day.

The key this time...versus last time...is that they're not "over saturating" the channels with AT40. Other than the initial marathon, the shows will only air a couple of times over the weekends. So the people who DO enjoy the "jukebox" format of the 70s and 80s channels will only have to "contend" with AT40 for a few hours a week.
As for me, I'm actually going to hook up my XM radio again. I bought an extended subscription some time ago, but haven't been using it of late. AT40's return gives me a reason to.

As someone who has both sirius and XM, I can tell you that yes, the XM channels are lacking right now... but as far as the decades channels go, the 80s is lacking most.. and originally, in 2001, the 80s channel is the reason I got XM. I also cannot stand the jukebox type of situation with no DJ. Recently, however, they added a DJ in the mornings and the word is that XM is going to go more "old school XM" and bring back the "character" of the stations. They realize where they went wrong and are, in essence, going to go more toward character. Hence, adding Wolfman Jack to the 60s and Casey to 70s and 80s. Like her or hate her, when Heidi Selexa was on the 80s station, she brought a sort of "on my god, totally awesome" 80s character to it.
The Big 80s station on Sirius has a lot of character to it as they have hired all of the living original MTV VJs as their DJs: Nina Blackwood, Martha Quinn, Alan Hunter, and Mark Goodman. Sirius also hired Cousin Brucie as a DJ on its 60s station.
So, yes, I can see how you arent happy with the XM music stations... it seems like the last 6 months Ive listened to them less also... and more of the Talk 165 station. But, from everything I read, it seems like they are going back to the time when you could hear the rare record and actually hear a voice, a character, to the stations. Lets hope for the best.
And as someone who already owns XM, Im very excited to see Casey back. Im optomistic about it - knowing the work Shannon Lynn has done to remaster ALL of the shows back to 7/4/70 - but even if (worst case scenario) they only play ten shows, its still ten shows I probably dont already have. So, Im happy with it. But again, Wolfman Jack has lasterd a while on the 60s and Im glad he has... love the show. Maybe Casey can do the same this time.
I did hear that "When is AT40 coming back" is the most asked question to the 80s channel over the last year... that must say something.

Does anyone know when AT40 will start on XM? Will the marathon be the first weekend of August?

I believe it starts on the weekend of Aug 4 with a marathon and will broadcast 2x per week on the 70s on 7 and 80s on 8 (once during the week and once on the weekend probably) XM hasn't posted anything about the show on its website yet, but the morning DJ on the 80s has been talking about it every day and I sure hope that nothing happens to make XM change its mind at the last minute. I bet their weekly newsletter which comes out on Friday or Saturday for the upcoming week will have something to say about their plans for the show.

Next week's XM schedule is now up on their website and a grand total of ZERO mentions of AT40 are found on it that I saw.

links.email.xmradio.com/servlet/MailView?ms=NTczMjE5S0&r=Mzg2NTY5MTYyMwS2&j=MTk3ODY4MTAS1&mt=1That's the link to XM radio new schedule for next week mentioning AT40's return to 80's channel together with the 70's channel which starts Aug 4. The other link inside the page has not been uploaded so no exact time...my guess is that it would be early morning of Aug 4th which airs simultaneously on both channel if you have only one XM receiver, you'll definitely have a problem. But if are a Directv subscriber with DVR receiver you can record both shows simultaneously. Or Record one on your current receiver and the other online...of course, you would need 2 PC too...

Yep, also just got the newsletter... looks like Friday through Sunday. I was just expecting a Saturday marathon, so this is cool.
Now to find a way to rec... um, listen... to both at once.

Email me at zimm7778@comcast.net and we can discuss how we can "listen" to the shows from the 70's and 80's. ;D
