4 hour shows continue on KFYZ this week, with them featuring 2/1/1986, it also has the cue sheet of brand new jingles to go with it. The only holdover from the 1984 jingle package is the opening hour theme from Hours 2-4. No #40 jingle here, which is very rare for this era, and no ACC Archive as of yet which debuted a few weeks after this. charismusicgroup.com/ACC%20Cue%20Sheets/ACC%201986-0201.pdf

Now home from another night at work. Been several months since 1986 was last featured.
While I don't have many regular shows from the 1980s, I do have this one. Looks like the archives would start two weeks later, on the 2/15 show. Was looking through the cue sheets, and although it's not super obvious, songs 31, 21, and 11 are in their own segment with what appears to be an archive hit. I say that because there's nothing listed before the title and artist, as there is for the 40 countdown songs.

And I think KFYZ also picked that show in part because Dolly Parton was recently nominated to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, joining just a handful of country artists that have been inducted and/or nominated (though she has not been inducted as of yet). These 1986 jingles would last through the summer of 1989 when a new set of jingles came into play (though some from the 1986 package remained intact). Meanwhile WSM-AM is going with 2/17/2007 in terms of CT40... no Dolly Parton in the milestone however. charismusicgroup.com/ACC%20Cue%20Sheets/CT40%202007-0217.pdf

I can hear the difference in quality compared to last week's show, with this being in CD quality format. Despite all of this, this show as far as I know was not featured on ACC Rewind (even though they omit the first hour). It's so cool that KFYZ is showing the full ACC show.

This is the first 1992 show to be aired since we’ve been tracking.

4 hour shows continue on KFYZ this week, with them featuring 2/1/1986, it also has the cue sheet of brand new jingles to go with it. The only holdover from the 1984 jingle package is the opening hour theme from Hours 2-4. No #40 jingle here, which is very rare for this era, and no ACC Archive as of yet which debuted a few weeks after this. charismusicgroup.com/ACC%20Cue%20Sheets/ACC%201986-0201.pdfThose early 1986 ACC shows are a unique listening experience, IMO. There were quite a few album cuts that never made it to single played as extras during this five-week span, from between the first four-hour show on Jan. 11 to the first show with the ACC Archives on Feb. 15. The Feb. 1 show that was featured recently is a prime example. First up: "A Gold Watch and Chain," an album cut from Emmylou Harris' 1979 album Roses In the Snow that featured Ricky Skaggs. Also featured was an excerpt of the original "Everyday" by Buddy Holly and another album cut, the "Buddy Holly Medley" (featuring "Well All Right," "It's So Easy," "Maybe Baby" and "Peggy Sue") from Waylon Jennings' 1978 album I've Always Been Crazy. Those two songs sandwiched James Taylor's biggest country hit, a cover of Holly's " Everyday." Later in the second hour, yet another album cut, this one the title track of Ray Charles' 1983 album Friendship with Ricky Skaggs in a duet. And in Hour 3, a song that was at the time an album cut from Exile's 1985 album Hang On To Your Heart, called " She's Too Good To Be True." That track later became a single in the summer of 1987, and would reach No. 1 that Sept. 5. And in the fourth hour, the fifth album cut ... Steve Wariner's cover of the Rodney Crowell-Guy Clark composition "She's Crazy For Leaving," from Wariner's Life's Highway album. Crowell released his version in the fall of 1988, and reached No. 1 with the song Jan. 21, 1989. Just four songs that had previously been released as singles were heard: * " Love Is Fair" by Barbara Mandrell (a top 10 hit from 1978). * " Joshua," Dolly Parton's first No. 1 country hit from 1971. * " The Credit Card Song" by Dick Feller, a comic take on credit cards that was a top-10 hit in 1974. (Likely as the ACC Calendar feature.) * " I'll Get Over You" by Crystal Gayle, her first No. 1 hit from 1976. You listen to those early four-hour shows, and you'll get some rare treats, and not just songs that haven't been played on most country radio stations in 36 years, but rare album cuts as well. I've heard tell that back in the 1970s, when album-oriented rock stations were really rising in popularity, the concept of album-oriented stations focusing on country music were planned. Same idea: Playing tracks that perhaps were potential singles, covers of country (and often) pop hits and tracks that were not going to be released as singles but had merit to be heard on the radio. Heck, even WLLR (my hometown country station) had a nightly feature where an entire album from a then popular country artist would be played in its entirety. So I just am curious as to how this idea would have fared, more than likely back in the day. Brian

Although AT40 started using the new 1989 theme and jingles by this point, ACC continued to use the 1986 theme/jingles until the summer of 1989 when it was updated. Country music certainly did change in those years... and even more so on last week's KFYZ's ACC show.
KFYZ also started the show a little later than usual...

Yeah, started at seven minutes past the hour, which is unusual for them. Sometimes they're a minute or two early, but almost always on schedule.
Forgot to mention with last week's 1992 show, the shows on both sides (2/1 and 2/15) were ACC Rewind selections.

They started the show pretty much on time this week, and it's been a while since they've done a 3-hour show, let alone a long time since they've done 1985. No extras this week, a straight 40-1 countdown show like some of the late 3-hour AT40 shows.

Have to work again tonight, so I won't be here to post or able to listen to tonight's ACC airing.
