This week's Bowman show would be his last ACC show as host. Bob Kingsley took over on 5/6/1978 (I have that show, but not Bowman's final show). Bob would let ACC listeners know about the permanent change after #40 on his first show. And what a change it was!

Who knows, maybe in the next week or two KFYZ could air the first permanent show with Bob Kingsley as the host. It's hard to believe that over the course of four and a half years or thereabouts Don Bowman had a good run, but I guess his busy schedule got him in.

For both ACC and AT40, the 1982 jingle packages didn't last very long, as both were 86'd in early 1984. While I thought the AT40 1982 package was okay (not their best), I thought the ACC 1982 package was good. But I also like the ACC 1984 jingles.

I just discovered the KFYZ station and it's replays of these shows. Loving this, however I gotta say the Don Bowman shows are very corny. They seemed to playing to the "Hee Haw" crowd. It makes sense for them to have switched to Bob Kingsley. I noticed that Don had a tendency to introduce the songs with a "rural" tone. For instance in this weeks show he intro's Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" as "Here's Dolly Parton with 'I'll Always Love Ya'" For Susan Raye's "Stop The World (And Let Me Off)" he says "Susan Raye and "Stop The World, I'm Gettin' Off". I don't know if he was just going for a comedic effect or not, but just sounds kind of dopey. The change made sense.
Nonetheless, I'm loving these ACC shows!!! Growing up ACC didn't air in my area of New England, we had The Weekly Country Music Countdown with Chris Charles. Beginning around 1981 or so I tuned in every week.

I've been playing catch-up with ACC since the retro shows began re-airing in 2015 with ACC Rewind, and I still have a long way to go. (ACC Rewind stopped airing at the end of 2019, after Bob's passing, and has since resurfaced on KFYZ and WSM, the latter playing Country Top 40.) I do enjoy a Bowman ACC show every once in a while, and it's great to hear them (again). But once Bob took over in May 1978, ACC went to a whole new level. I think the switch benefitted all parties, Bowman included. Just as Casey was to the pop music world, Bob was to the country music world. I only wish I had gotten into country music long before I did in 2015. Better late than never.
