The Hamster Dance song never made AT40 reaches anyway. Not even that "What Does The Fox Say" song by Yvlis or the 2015-2016 "Axel F" remake by Crazy Frog. Actually Crazy Frog’s record was from 2005. And one very annoying recent worldwide hit that AT40 wasn’t immune to was “Dance Monkey” by Tones and I, which made the top 10. Just fixed the Crazy Frog date.

On AT40: The 80's 9/20/1986: Do you think The Art of Noise's "Paranoia" (featuring Max Headroom - a/k/a Matt Frewer - where is he now?) is an embarrassing spoken word song?
I may also call the 9/20/1986 AT40 debut of New Edition's cover of "Earth Angel" embarrassing - Even though it made the top 25 on Billboard's Hot 100 used for AT40, it was shut out of R&R CHR!

Suppose these are a matter of opinion, but What did Christopher Cross ever do to anybody? I enjoyed Christopher Cross (still do), but he represents the pre-MTV yacht rock era--many of the artists in that genre would be relegated to adult contemporary radio once MTV became really popular (1983). In Cross's case, he did have one hit in 1984, "Think of Laura," which became popular because of a daytime soap opera. He tried for a more modern image in 1985 with "Charm the Snake," but it peaked only in the 70s or thereabouts on the Hot 100.

IMHO (of course), all of Cross' singles have held up better over the decades than a lot of the 'typically '80s' -sounding MTV-era songs that followed. Nothing 'embarrassing' about his songs at all.

Another Billboard Top 10 hit in the pre-Soundscan era that didn't make the R&R charts: "Pac-Man Fever" by Buckner & Garcia. In "Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing," I found all of Stevie Wonder's chatter (some of it in Spanish) before he starts singing to be a little embarrassing.

A sad commentary on the devolving of current pop culture (yeah yeah, I know I'm aging, but now we're this vulgar and graphic and don't seem to want to leave much to the imagination?). I breathe a sigh of relief these days when my kids don't appear to express interest in stuff like this.

Or "Twilight Zone", which peaked at #10 on Billboard, yet came nowhere near making the R&R chart (based on how high it made in the New & Active section).

I breathe a sigh of relief these days when my kids don't appear to express interest in stuff like this. Fortunately, that's just Billboard. It wasn't even a Breakout as of last weekend's AT40 show. And since it's lost its bullet, it's unlikely to make it.

This has more to do with the sounds in the song but "Jungle Fever" by Chakachas. It is embarrassing to have that song come on if you are a teenager or kid listening in 1972 in front of parents or any older person with the moaning sounds. One could add both "Pillow Talk" (in this week's '73 show) and "Love To Love You Baby" to the 'orgasmic' list, which "Jungle Fever" certainly tops. "I'll have what she's having..." There's another song like that today that's bubbling under AT40 called "Body" by Megan Thee Stallion.
