For anyone that considers this song embarrassing, I thought I'd point out that today is the 50th anniversary of the debut of Zager & Evans' "In the Year 2525" on the Top 40. It would of course, go on to spend 12 weeks in the 40, and half of those were at #1. Guessing by the time it started to drop, people were really really sick of hearing it on the radio... Really liked it that summer--but I was 11! Now I think it's a rather monotonous tune with some amateurish rhymes that could really use a bridge. I actually don't hate it and find it to be a unique and interesting song in the rock era. It has the feel of a sci fi short film wrapped up in a song, and does stretch the imagination a bit as to what things might be like thousands of years into the future. But I only have to hear it on occasion--wasn't alive in 1969 when it was on the radio and at #1 for six weeks.

I just went on Rick Evans' Facebook page. His last post was only three weeks ago. I can't find a Facebook page for him. Any clues for tracking it down? I Googled "rick evans," and the Facebook link came right up.

On Kent Kotal's Forgotten Hits blog, there's a new post by a Lincoln, NE, disc jockey named Clark Besch that tells us more about Zager & Evans than we really care to know. This DJ does mention, however, that Rick Evans "passed away a few years ago." The FB link must be a fake, then.

There is a Rick Evans on Facebook who does Christian music and posted most recently in early June. Not the "2525" guy.

"In The Year 2525" was the # 1 song when Neil Armstrong first set foot on the moon-That was fifty years ago Saturday (7/20).

I am surprised no one has mentioned "The Streak" by Ray Stevens. Jaybeau Jones played this song on the Sirius/XM 70s on 7 channel this afternoon... what was he thinking?! I realize that streaking was a big thing in 1974 but I don't get how that song tied for most weeks at #1 in 1974.
Has anyone named any Cheech & Chong songs like "Sister Mary Elephant" or "Basketball Jones"? Falsetto voices like Philip Bailey or Russell Thompkins can be great to listen to but the falsetto on "Basketball Jones" is cringe-worthy.

Love "The Streak! It is hilarious to me. I said "love the streak", not "love to streak"

The gibberish at the beginning of "Trouble" by Lindsay Buckingham.
There's also some really embarrassing yodeling from Rihanna at the end of "Disturbia."

The gibberish at the beginning of "Trouble" by Lindsay Buckingham. Pretty sure Lindsay was repeating a count off "a two, a three, a four." Not sure at all why he skipped 'one.'

Interestingly enough about the "big boys don't cry" line in "I'm Not In Love"--Godley and Creme actually reprised that in their 1985 hit "Cry". It's not my favorite part of either song, but there has been worse... I hate the way they ended "Cry," which IMO was a great song with the distorted cry......Cry......CRYYYYYYYYYY My vote goes to Long Haired Lover from Liverpool. Straight up Osmond family cash grab. Please shoot me. I hated Cry when it was big on radio and MTV back in '85. Listened to it on the '85 AT 40 show last week and actually enjoyed hearing this...until the last part of the song. Ugggghhh.

Do you think Tom Clay's "What The World Needs Now/Abraham, Martin, and John" which fell off the 9/11/1971 AT40 chart is depressing?

Do you think Tom Clay's "What The World Needs Now/Abraham, Martin, and John" which fell off the 9/11/1971 AT40 chart is depressing? Isn't that it's purpose? I've made no secret on here over the years for my loathing of this particular 'song'. Not really 'embarrassing', just bad. Right up there with 'Battle Hymn of Lt. Calley' and 'Once You Understand'. All three of which, incidentally, were from 1971...

Do you think Tom Clay's "What The World Needs Now/Abraham, Martin, and John" which fell off the 9/11/1971 AT40 chart is depressing? I actually heard it last week on Sirius 70s Channel. JMO but it is depressing, embarrassing and horrible. It took a pretty good Dion song and turned it into something you would expect to hear from a very small market production director trying to be inventive.
