I agree, never did I see this coming. I really thought with the branding change and Kix taking over nine years ago that we would never hear these shows. Glad to see that they have found a way to do it. I am sure the fact that CT40 is under the Westwood One umbrella alongside the current ACC helps.
I think it is a great thing, and much like with the Casey shows, it sets up a scenario that keeps Bob on the air indefinitely. He is 76 and I am sure one day will hang up the headphones.

Axing 1st hour to make the show a Top 30...
mmmmmm.... That is not a big deal. Because shows from 90s and 00´s, the ones to be re run, are not Kix´s current ACC format.

Perhaps this is setting himself up for retirement in the near future? (Like three or four years or so?) Axing 1st hour to make the show a Top 30... mmmmmm.... That is not a big deal. Because shows from 90s and 00´s, the ones to be re run, are not Kix´s current ACC format. For the time being at least, it appears that 1990-2005 appears to be the era from which these shows will be taken. (Essentially, a 16-year window.) If earlier programs from 1978-1989 do air, we'll find out soon enough. That said, I do not expect Don Bowman-era shows to ever air. Simply because Bowman is not well known to modern audiences -- certainly, he's not identified with the show these days -- and, particularly with his early shows, too much cornspun humor that might not be politically correct today. The show is being marketed specifically as a Bob Kingsley show.
I imagine this will bring out those who say that the Don Bowman shows should air much like those who insist the Shadoe shows will somehow materialize on the CK AT40 the 80s series

The show is Bob Kingsley and there are no possibilities of 80s show, pre 1986 when the shows were 3 hours long and with the Top 40 It is mentioned here that the decades will be 90s and 00´s : The "ACC REWIND" countdown will feature Country music hits from the 1990s and early 2000s. www.allaccess.com/net-news/archive/story/140561/nash-to-launch-american-country-countdown-rewind-wThis is the official name of the show: "AMERICAN COUNTRY COUNTDOWN REWIND WITH BOB KINGSLEY," And of course, sub-hosted shows in those decades will be not possible.

Here is what seems like a timely piece from the ACC show from today's date in 1995.
"In 1985, 16 country music albums were certified gold. But in 1994, 75 country music albums went gold. What is the reason for the incredible surge in popularity? #1 thing is pop music diversified so much in recent years with rap, urban, AC heavy metal, grunge and alternative rock all staking a claim. Many pop fans found they no longer identified with the music and started coming over to country. And with all the new young stars in the genre, they found a lot to like. As a result, whereas country accounted for about 10% of the American record business a decade ago, now that figure has doubled and retail sales have jumped from $440 million to a record $2 billion. At the same time, the number of country radio stations has increased from about 1800 to 2500.
Bob Kingsley echoing what has been posted on this board many times over the years. So it is not a coincidence IMO that it is only the 90s and 2000s that are part of these rebroadcasts. But it is too bad we have to endure the missing first hour shenanigans again with this. kkl llllll

I imagine this will bring out those who say that the Don Bowman shows should air much like those who insist the Shadoe shows will somehow materialize on the CK AT40 the 80s series Well again, they won't, nor do I expect them to, so that I've established that right now. Even if the name were to just simply be "ACC Rewind," I mentioned already several reasons why these shows will likely never re-air in any form (aside from whether they need to be licensed to reair, before someone mentions it) ... the main reasons being: * He's not readily identified with the show these days (only Bob Kingsley and Kix Brooks are) * Bowman's politically incorrect humor. Half of the things that he said on his shows that might have passed in 1975 would get him blacklisted from the airwaves if said today). The only way we'll hear Bowman's voice on an ACC program is if it were an interview clip from a Kingsley-hosted program that aired sometime between 1990-2005 (e.g., an ACC Calendar feature for the song " Just to Satisfy You" by Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson, which Bowman wrote). Speaking of which, wonder if we'll hear interview clips of Kix Brooks on a Kingsley-hosted ACC (before a Brooks & Dunn song)? Face it, this series IS about Bob Kingsley and his presentation of the show. Brian

I'm amazed this is happening with Bob on the air doing a competing show. Count me also among the crowd who NEVER wants to hear a Don Bowman show anywhere near an airwave!

Face it, this series IS about Bob Kingsley and his presentation of the show. Brian Don Bowman is analagous to Shadoe Stevens in a sense here, as the ACC/AT40 host that gets overlooked in favour of the name most associated with it historically (Bob Kingsley/Casey Kasem) and the current host (Kix Brooks/Ryan Seacrest.) I've never heard a Bowman countdown, but his comedy background probably did lead him to include a lot of humour that may have seemed topical or funny at the time, but would seem dated if not offensive to many today. The same is true of a lot of old Rick Dees shows, though I still enjoy them for the music and his discussion of it.

It's not whether it's "funny" or not. He pretty much had a one liner or joke after every single song and going into every single break.

He mainly did the one-liners prior to 1977 -- some from the early shows were really acidic, even by 1970s standards -- after which he curtailed this quite considerably and by the end, there was virtually nothing that would be construed as a "one-liner." Couple of his specials, such as the "B-sides" special from 1975, had no one-liners. Just a straightforward presentation and a genuine, authoritative knowledge of country music. Brian

Hey folks!
Once the show is up and running, I wonder if we can do the following:
* Create a thread -- and sticky it -- under the General Music Discussion area relating to ACC rebroadcasts * Sticky a post within the thread (that can be updated) about stations airing "ACC Rewind," times, etc. We already know the NASH-branded stations will be airing the show; but what others will be?

I like Bob best but Don can be funny now and again. My favorite Don Bowman comment was after playing Thank God I'm A Country Boy. He said:
Every time I play that record I have to call the Roto Rooter guy to come unclog the record player.
So basically, he called the John Denver record a pile of crap! hahahaha!

I'm not seeing the humor there. But I guess others do/did.
