Classic car spare parts from the 3D printer
The 3D printing specialist M&H CNC, based in Ilz (Styria), is mainly active in the aerospace and automotive industries and in motorsport - Formula 1 teams also use the lightweight precision parts from the East Styrian company. "The reconstruction of old-timer spare parts was originally intended as a niche business, but it´s now picking up more and more speed with ever more sophisticated technologies: The sales increase in the last five years has been around 30 percent", says M&H managing director Patrick Herzig, "just before the start of the season the demand is enormous". "You can´t just drive into a workshop in a classic car and say: Please exchange this spare part for me because there are no more spare parts for it. And with 3D printing, we can reconstruct, scan and restore these parts with an exact fit - and that in the shortest possible time." In order for a classic car part to be reproduced, according to Patrick Herzig, an old component must still be present at least in part, "which we then scan with a 3D scanner and add missing surfaces - this is what is known as 'reverse engineering'. With this data set, we can then 3D print the part, then it is mechanically processed, the functional surfaces are processed, and thus we can deliver the finished component to the customer." State-of-the-art technology for historic vehicles - the idea of the East Styrian company has spread throughout Europe: There are currently inquiries from Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg, among others. But the market and interest are also great in Austria, as around 257,000 classic cars are registered.
And here´s my "oldtimer"-edition for this week:
4/9/88:
Billy Ocean - Get Outta My Dreams Get Into My Car Natalie Cole - Pink Cadillac Pet Shop Boys - Always On My Mind Richard Marx - Endless Summer Nights Tiffany - I Saw Him Standing There
Time for an extra: Dollar
Dollar was a British pop duo consisting of Thereza Bazar and David van Day that had five top 10 hits in the British charts between 1978 and 1988. And although the two didn´t particularly like each other, they formed the duo Dollar in 1978. With the cover version of the Beatles smash "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" followed a top 10 hit in England at the end of 1979. By 1982 seven more singles climbed into the English charts, including "Videotheque" in 1982:
In the meantime, the relationship between the two had deteriorated further, so that the collaboration was ended in 1983. Both musicians dedicated themselves to solo projects. However, when there was no success, it came to the reunion in 1986. With "Oh L´amour", originally by Erasure, Dollar had a top 10 hit in Switzerland and England in 1987:

So many great songs on the 4/20/85 show! Time to go old school with my review... along with reasons for just a few songs not making the cut...
My Top 35 songs from the 4/20/85 show: 5 stars: Obsession, One Night In Bangkok, All She Wants To Do Is Dance, Some Like It Hot, Material Girl, Along Comes A Woman, Lover Girl, Smooth Operator, That Was Yesterday, Just Another Night, Forever Man*, Radioactive, Fresh, Just A Gigolo/I Ain't Got Nobody, The Bird, Things Can Only Get Better 4 1/2 stars: I'm On Fire, Don't You Forget About Me, Somebody, Everything She Wants, Don't Come Around Here No More, Everybody Wants To Rule The World, Axle F, High On You, One Lonely Night 4 stars: We Are The World, Crazy For You, Nightshift, One More Night, Rock & Roll Girls, Can't Fight This Feeling, New Attitude, Suddenly, Too Late For Goodbyes, Walking On Sunshine Missing the cut: 3 1/2 stars: Missing You... Weak intro but I like the rest of this song... it almost made the cut. Celebrate Youth... catchy song but sounds a little dated today. 3 stars: Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid... catchy chorus but unmemorable verses; a solid effort. Vox Humana... solid if unspectacular effort. 2 1/2 stars: Rhythm Of The Night... For whatever reason, this song does nothing for me. The song sounds like it's a 1/4 step flat which is kind of a turn off. For me, the song needs a meatier bass line and stronger drums. It does have a catchy chorus and verses.
My Top 26 songs from the 4/19/75 countdown (absolute 5-star favorites in bold): Top 10: Philadelphia Freedom, Hey Won't You Play Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song, Lovin' You, No No Song, He Don't Love You Like I Love You, Chevy Van, What Am I Gonna Do With You, Emma #11-20: Lady Marmalade, Walking In Rhythm, Shining Star, Long Tall Glasses (I Can Dance), Jackie Blue, Express #21-30: It's A Miracle, Killer Queen, How Long, Poetry Man, Thank God I'm A Country Boy, Amie #31-40: Have You Never Been Mellow, You Are So Beautiful, Young Americans, Bad Time, My Eyes Adored You, Shakey Ground*
* This week's Pick Hits having something in common... Forever Man and Shakey Ground... what might it be? This may be too easy of a question:

4/20/85:Julian Lennon - Too Late For Goodbyes Murray Head - One Night In Bangkok REO Speedwagon - Can´t Fight This FeelingThe Firm - Radioactive Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - Don´t Come Around Here No More Traffic jamsTraffic jams occur almost every day on motorways and expressways. Traffic jam researchers have been able to gain more and more knowledge in recent decades. In some cases, however, they also looked around the animal world and, with the support of software programs, were able to examine and calculate the formation of traffic jams more precisely. There are many ways of approaching the topic of traffic jams. What researchers can clearly say, however, is: In the case of ant trails and flocks of birds, there are no congestion and no collisions, because the individual animals continuously communicate with each other and the focus is on everyone´s rapid progress. In the animal kingdom there are no speeders and jostlers - every animal adheres to the rules and thus avoids traffic jams. The Austrian highway maintenance company ASFINAG wants to equip Austria´s motorways with a wireless network for mobile internet access by 2023. The first test phase of this WLAN system has been set up between Salzburg and Vienna since mid-January. The system is intended to provide modern vehicles with information - for example about construction sites, speed limits or accidents - and thus increase driving safety. ASFINAG plans to install a total of 500 WLAN boxes along all motorways across Austria. The first 175 boxes will start, which will be displayed on overhead displays along the A1 between Salzburg and Vienna. The new system will be tested on this section for the first time from 2022, says Bernd Datler, Managing Director of ASFINAG Maut Service GmbH. "This enables ´the road´ to inform vehicles in its vicinity very quickly - for example about accidents, dangerous traffic situations or construction sites. It´s a fast and future-oriented way of how road and vehicle can communicate with one another," explains Datler. The prerequisite is a suitably equipped vehicle - no road user has to have any concerns about data protection. "You can think of it as if you would change the license plate number of your vehicle every hundred meters. In addition, there is no register of identification numbers. This means that it is not possible to draw any conclusions about the identity of vehicles," assures Datler. And here´s my "Keep calm"-edition (for the next traffic jam): 4/20/85:Bruce Springsteen - I´m On FireHoward Jones - Things Can Only Get Better Madonna - Crazy For You Phil Collins - One More Night Sade - Smooth OperatorTime for an extra: Agnetha FältskogAgnetha Åse Fältskog was born on 4/5/1950 in Jönköping, Sweden. As one of the two A´s from ABBA, she became world famous. A year before ABBA won the Grand Prix with “Waterloo”, the group applied for the Swedish preliminary round with “Ring Ring”. Agnetha wasn´t there that day, she was nine months pregnant. The Grand Prix with “Waterloo” was the big breakthrough. A year later, ABBA brought out the title song of the later musical. “Mama Mia” became a top hit across Europe. Hit after hit followed. ABBA were the kings of the 70s. They mastered soft tones as well as happy pop hits. At some point the split came and all members went their own way. At Agnetha it means first of all further successful songs with performances all over the world. 2013 Agnetha Fältskog released her last album so far with the title "A". The song "I Should´ve Followed You Home", sung with Gary Barlow, became a hit in the UK. From April 1985 here´s Agnetha Fältskog with "I Won´t Let You Go" (maybe also a suitable song if you´re stuck in a traffic jam):

Another phenomenal 80s countdown this weekend! And the 70s countdown is up there as well...
My Top 38 songs from the 4/28/84 countdown plus feedback regarding the two tunes that didn't make the favorites cut: 5 stars: Miss Me Blind, They Don't Know, Head Over Heels, Tonight, Don't Answer Me, The Authority Song, Leave It, A Fine Fine Day, No More Words, Show Me, I'll Wait, White Horse, Rock You Like A Hurricane 4 1/2 stars: Against All Odds, Footloose, You Might Think, Automatic, Oh Sherrie, The Longest Time, Jump, Sister Christian, Girls Just Want To Have Fun, The Reflex, It's My Life, The Heart Of Rock & Roll 4 stars: Hello, Hold Me Now, Love Somebody, Somebody's Watching Me, Let's Hear It For The Boy, Adult Education, Here Comes The Rain Again, Girls, Dancing In The Sheets, Time After Time, Eat It, Holding Out For A Hero, Borderline Missing the cut: * 3 stars: Breakdance: A little catchy but also a little too safe of a hit. * 2 1/2 stars: To All The Girls I've Loved Before: Too schmaltzy for me but i get why this was a Top 5 hit.
My Top 26 songs from the 4/24/76 countdown (usual rating method): Top 10: Let Your Love Flow, Right Back Where We Started From, Boogie Fever, Sweet Love, Only Sixteen, Welcome Back, Show Me The Way, Bohemian Rhapsody, Fooled Around & Fell In Love #11-20: Lonely Night, Dream Weaver, December 1963, Dream On, I Do I Do I Do I Do, Shannon, Tryin' To Get The Feeling Again #21-30: Strange Magic, Sara Smile, Silly Love Songs, Rhiannon, Lorelei, Get Up & Boogie, Love Hangover #31-40: Golden Years, Can't Hide Love, More More More
This Week's Pick Hits are from Laid Back and Earth Wind & Fire. "White Horse" was so different from anything else on the radio... maybe a little ahead of its time that it only got to #26. How did "Can't Hide Love" only get to #39?!?! (NOTE: Laid Back video NSFW due to language):
BONUS: 11 of my 13 "5 star" songs from the '84 countdown didn't make the Top 10. If that doesn't tell you how awesome the Spring of '84 was for music...

Maybe dancing a quickstep or a samba can help. You wouldn't want to see me dance to anything. I failed out of both the Carlton Banks Dance Academy and the Elaine Benes School of Dance... My post was intended as a suggestion to find an "easier" access to "Rhythm Of The Night". Of course there are so many (maybe "better") examples of samba such as "Copacabana", "Mas Que Nada" or "Sucker DJ". I often find my access to music through dance - and then "actually" it doesn´t matter how I dance ... it´s still more important who I dance with, right ?

4/28/84:Alan Parsons Project - Don´t Answer Me Berlin - No More Words Julio Iglesias & Willie Nelson - To All The Girls I´ve Loved BeforeTalk Talk - It´s My Life The Pointer Sisters - Automatic 50:50 ChallengeSince October 2020, ORF has been involved in the 50:50 Challenge, which was launched by the BBC four years ago and in which more than 50 media companies are now participating. The proportion of women among the 90 broadcast teams involved is currently 45 percent. There is already equality in moderation, in other areas there is still a lot of catching up to do with a share of 42 percent. The interest in the house is great, so Katia Rössner, ORF equal opportunities officer. An analysis of over 3,500 individual programs over the past six months showed that more than half had already achieved the 50:50 goal in March. "The main goal is to rethink," says the equal opportunities officer. "I am convinced that equality between men and women is a success factor for the company," says ORF General Director Alexander Wrabetz. The challenge is to provide a platform for highly qualified female experts from all areas. However, in the area of politics, for example, where the proportion of men is higher, it is not possible to force a proportion of women. "We also have to depict reality. Where we can shape, we do it," says the General Director. If the expert and the expert are equally qualified, the decision is made in favor of a woman, according to the rule of the challenge. Journalistic quality remains the overriding principle in any case, as does free choice. More than 100 organizations from 26 countries are now taking part in the challenge, said Nina Goswami, head of the project at the BBC. More than two thirds of the participating teams at the BBC already meet the women´s quota. According to Goswami, that goes down well with the audience. According to a survey, 44 percent believe that they now enjoy the BBC's services more. And here are my " 50:50"-editions for this week: " female"-edition: 4/28/84:Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Want To Have Fun Irene Cara - Breakdance Madonna - Borderline The Go-Go´s - Head Over Heels Tracey Ullman - They Don´t Know " male"-edition: 4/28/84:Daryl Hall & John Oates - Adult Education Dwight Twilley - Girls Rick Springfield - Love Somebody Steve Perry - Oh, Sherrie Tony Carey - A Fine Fine Day Time for an extra: Fiction FactoryKevin Patterson´s music therapy studies are going rather badly than right. He always falls asleep during the lectures. No wonder, he beats the nights with his unsuccessful band "Rude Boys". Kevin actually has very different plans for the future. He dreams of landing great success as a songwriter and pop singer and making a lot of money. So he forges a bold plan with his buddies Eddie and Chic. With their new band they want to hold up a mirror to big business. They call themselves " Fiction Factory" and compose catchy synth pop songs, the lyrics of which exaggerate the ideal pop world. And with the first song they create, they hit the nerve of the times. "Feels like heaven" brings them the long-awaited record deal. However, it remains the only hit for " Fiction Factory", which dissolves 3 years later. Today the band occasionally gives concerts at oldie festivals. Kevin Patterson has withdrawn from the music business and works full-time as an IT developer at Dundee University. Here are Fiction Factory with their hit "Feels Like Heaven":
