3/14/87:Time for an extra: Iggy PopThe musician, known as the "Godfather of Punk", is regarded as a pioneer and companion of punk rock and related styles. Due to his dynamic to excessive stage presence, he gained the reputation of an exalted artist. In March 2010 Iggy Pop was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in recognition of his work. In 1987 Iggy Pop reached #10 in England and #1 in New Zealand with "Real Wild Child": [/quote] I'll add to the Iggy Pop list... two of my faves are "The Passenger" and "Lust For Life". Neither of these made the Hot 100!:

The other Daylight Saving Time
Already last week the clocks in the USA "sprang one hour forward" due to the daylight saving time. Europe will follow next weekend. In the meantime, the daylight is at least "artificially" lengthened by the snow that is now available again. And the weather these days here in Salzburg is more reminiscent of Christmas than Easter. Therefore, here´s my "At Christmas possible"-edition or this week:

Time for an extra: Visage
Connoisseurs of the group "Electric Light Orchestra" know that there are French text passages in the song "Hold On Tight". Texts from the French language can also be found in a smash by the group "Visage" (French word for "face"). Steve Strange embodied the New Romantic style with the band Visage: As a bouncer in the London Blitz Club, he chose who was allowed to belong to the scene. When David Bowie had a music video made for his single "Ashes to Ashes" in 1980, young Steve also appeared in it - a great honor for someone who became famous in London with a club night that pays homage to the Bowie song "A Club for Heroes" was called. Strange and his roommate Rusty Egan started a weekly party in June 1978 at a Soho eatery called Billy´s; soon the duo moved to Covent Garden, to the larger "Blitz Club". The organizers and guests soon became so notorious that they only spoke of the "Blitz Kids". Rusty Egan chose the music, a mixture of David Bowie and his influences from the Berlin phase with disco songs and early electro-pop - a welcome change from a time when the punk shock had died down musically. The "Blitz Kids" became photographers, filmmakers, fashion designers, dancers - and also a few musicians: The members of Spandau Ballet went in and out there, and Boy George, who worked on the cloakroom in Blitz, later founded the band Culture Club. The scene was soon called "New Romantic" because, unlike punk, it no longer relied on ugliness, but instead invented an extremely aesthetic style from influences from the 20s and 50s with some futuristic elements - for which the stylist David Bowie was of course enthusiastic and which "Blitz Kids" got into his video. Steve Strange had been lured to London by punk from the Welsh provinces: at the Sex Pistols concert in 1976 in Caerphilly, the born Steven Harrington became friend with the bassist Glen Matlock; in the capital, the teenager worked for Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren. In the mid-80s, Steve Strange then, according to his own statement at a fashion show in Paris, made the mistake he would later call "the biggest of his life": he took heroin. It led to a personal decline that became public when he was arrested for shoplifting in the late 1990s - he had tried to steal a Teletubby figure for his nephew. Steve Strange died of a heart attack on 2/12/2015 in a hospital in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.
Visage stood for the new era (after punk). In 1981 they had their biggest hit with "Fade To Grey", an elegantly flowing electro pop song with French female vocals, an engaging synthesizer melody and cool beats:

[...]3/22/1986 35 years ago this week the following became prophetic as now it's a so-called 1-man band, Jeff Lynne's ELO! The Magic Flute
A few days ago filming for the international film production The Magic Flute began in Munich. The story of the modern fantasy film for the whole family revolves around the most famous and popular opera in the world, "The Magic Flute" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Florian Sigl, who has a background in classical music, is directing the film. When 17-year-old Tim Walker (Jack Wolfe) came from London to the legendary Mozart boarding school in the Austrian Alps to begin his vocal studies, he not only had to fight for his place among the equally ambitious fellow students, but also discovered one night there Centuries-old, secret portal that catapults him into the fantastic world of Mozart´s Magic Flute. As Prince Tamino, Tim meets the shrewd birdcatcher Papageno (Iwan Rheon), with whose help he has to endure dangerous adventures in order to free Princess Pamina (Asha Banks) from the clutches of Prince Sarastro (Morris Robinson) ... The main role of Tim Walker / Prince Tamino has been taken over by the British newcomer Jack Wolfe ("The Witcher"). At his side is "Game Of Thrones" star Iwan Rheon as bird catcher Papageno. Asha Banks, known from the musical hit "The Boy in The Dress "of the Royal Shakespeare Theater, slips into the role of Princess Pamina. The Magic Flute will be shot on 41 days in Munich, Salzburg, London and the Canary Islands and is expected to be in German and Austrian movies at the end of 2022.
So, here´s my special edition for this week - a real "magic"-edition:
3/22/86:
Falco - Rock Me Amadeus Opus - Live Is Life Prince & The Revolution - Kiss Sade - The Sweetest Taboo Whitney Houston - How Will I Know
Time for an extra: Opus with Maria Bill
Although born in Switzerland, Maria Bill is considered to be the representative of Austropop in the 80s. She lives in Vienna´s Neubau and rides her bike in the city, for interviews, among other things. She masters the technique called "Talerschwingen" in the Appenzell area, whereby a 5-franc coin is rotated in a clay bowl. In 1985 Maria Bill sang "Eleven" with Opus (11 is Opus´ favorite number):

The football curiosity of the year happened a few days ago at the World Cup qualifying match of the Swiss national team before the start of the game. During the warm-up, the Swiss goalkeeper coach Patrick Foletti noticed that one side of the goal, in which Yann Sommer let himself warm up, was a lot higher than normal. The Swiss reported this to the UEFA delegate, and the fourth official Antti Munukka was also involved. The measurement actually showed: 10 centimeters too high. The gate had to be dismantled. For almost 20 minutes, the TV viewers were able to watch live how desperate attempts were made in St.Gallen to fix the chaos of the goal. So, here´s a " fun"- (or " at least 20 minutes"-) edition: 4/12/83:Christopher Cross - All Right Dexy´s Midnight Runers - Come On Eileen Prince - Little Red Corvette Stray Cats - Stray Cat Strut Thomas Dolby - She Blinded Me With Science 5/26/84 (guest host: Charlie Van Dyke):Irene Cara - Breakdance Kenny Loggins - Footloose
