Time for an extra: Kid Creole & The CoconutsIn the early 80s, after punk and new wave washed away the disco sound, the time was ripe again for funny dance music. Kid Creole was looking for a new form of entertainment that would turn music, theater, dance and nonsense into a rousing mix of entertainment. The idea was not that new either - many big city revues in the 1920s and 1930s offered this relaxed form of the show. From her album "Tropical Gangsters" here are Kid Creole & The Coconuts with "Annie, I´m Not Your Daddy": from my musical category "daydreamer"My motto: "Not always the often heard hits." The group performed the song "My Male Curiosity" (with choreography by Adriana Kaegi) for the 1984 movie Against All Odds; the song also appeared on the best-selling soundtrack album along with its title track "Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)" by Phil Collins. A wonderful samba. And from the album "In Praise Of Older Women and Other Crimes" came "Endicott":

1/30/82 (A):Dan Fogelberg - Leader Of The BandGeorge Benson - Turn Your Love Around Rick Springfield - Love Is Alright Tonite The Cars - Shake It Up The Rolling Stones - Waiting On A Friend 1/25/86 (B):Atlantic Starr - Secret Lovers Bruce Springsteen - My HometownJames Brown - Living In America Sade - The Sweetest TabooThe Cars - Tonight She Comes Vendee GlobeThe Vendee Globe is a non-stop regatta for single-handed sailors, which leads around the globe along the Southern Ocean in the area of the Roaring Forties and is therefore the toughest single-handed regatta in the world. The start and finish of the race are in front of Les Sables-d´Olonne in the Vendee department in France. The regatta takes place every four years and always starts in November. The start date is based on the meteorological conditions in the South Pacific. In order to achieve the best media presence, a Sunday is always chosen as the starting date. Participants have to sail over 24,000 nautical miles around the world without any assistance or stepping onto land. The Cape of Good Hope, Cape Leeuwin and Cape Horn are to be left on port and the Antarctic on starboard. During the various events, further fixed points or virtual gates became a mandatory part of the route in order to prevent, for example, a dangerous southern exposure of the course through the Arctic Ocean, which has been declared a prohibited zone by the race committee. The regatta runs largely through the stormy and extremely dangerous Antarctic waters of the Roaring Forties and therefore places the highest demands on the participants. An here are my " power" (or e.g. " survial"-)editions: 1/30/82 (A):
Daryl Hall and John Oates - I Can´t Go For That Earth, Wind and Fire - Let´s Groove Journey - Don´t Stop Believin´ Rod Stewart - Young Turks The J. Geils Band - Centerfold
1/25/86 (B):Billy Ocean - When the Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Going Bryan Adams & Tina Turner - It´s Only Love Mr. Mister - Kyrie Pete Townshend - Face The Face Whitney Houston - How Will I Know Time for an extra: AnekaAneka, that was the Scottish folk singer Mary Sandemann. Especially with songs in the Gaelic language, she is still noticed and successful today. Because in 1981 some particularly conservative supporters of her were of the opinion that such a well-known folk singer should not bring out a pop record, she decided to publish her "Japanese Boy" (that was also the name of the LP) under the pseudonym Aneka. So Aneka is actually an art product, whereas the artist Mary Sandeman is a great singer. And that carried over to the Aneka hits. Unfortunately, her LP has not yet been released as a CD. Here´s Aneka with "Little Lady" and "Ooh Shooby Doo Doo Lang": from my musical category "daydreamer"My motto: "Not always the often heard hits."

In 1981 Kelly Marie reached #6 in Austria with "Feels Liks I'm In Love", which - like "Brand New Lover" from "Dead Or Alive" (#29 on 2/14/87) - is regarded as a forerunner of the Hi-NRG sound. Pat Benatar and The Spinners are this week's Pick Hits. How did Pat's hit only get to #36?: Wow, what a difference in countdowns... 36 favorites vs. 12! This is like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers versus the Detroit Lions in football... or the Los Angeles Dodgers versus the Detroit Tigers in basketball... or the Tampa Lightning versus the Detroit Red Wings in hockey... or the Los Angeles Lakers versus the Detroit Pistons in basketball. We Detroit sports fans are a little starved for any team to win something!
Bonus... seminolefan has more '85 favorites than '73 (28 vs. 18). Meanwhile, trekkielo has 21 faves from '73 and only 15 from '85?!?! This might require an AT40 investigation...

2/16/85:Duran Duran - Save A Prayer Eric Carmen - I Wanna Hear It From Your LipsJohn Hunter - Tragedy John Parr - Naughty Naughty Pat Benatar - Ooh Ooh Song Suitable for every occasionThis week shows once again the versatility of music. World Radio DayWorld Radio Day has been held annually on 2/13 since 2012. The aim is to draw attention to the importance of the medium, to strengthen it and to improve international cooperation. World Radio Day was celebrated for the first time in 2012. UNESCO launched the day of action in memory of the founding of United Nations Radio on 2/13/1946. The radio has been said dead many times - first through television, then through the Internet. To date, the radio reaches six billion listeners worldwide every day and remains the medium with the greatest reach. With World Radio Day, UNESCO would like to draw attention to the importance of this medium. Many people would be excluded from information without radio, because in many regions local radio stations are the only source of information. Radio also plays an important role in disaster control and emergency communication in order to disseminate information quickly. World Radio Day not only wants to strengthen and raise awareness of the importance of this information channel, but also to improve international cooperation. And here´s my " radio"-edition: 2/16/85:David Lee Roth - California Girls Don Henley - The Boys Of Summer Glenn Frey - The Heat Is On Madonna - Like A Virgin Philip Bailey & Phil Collins - Easy Lover Highlight of the carnivalEven if there are hardly any events in times of a pandemic, thanks to the music it´s possible to create a carnival atmosphere at least within your own four walls.

Chicago - You´re The Inspiration Foreigner - I Want To Know What Love Is REO Speedwagon - Can´t Fight This Feeling Tina Turner - Private Dancer Wham ! Feat. George Michael - Careless WhisperTime for an extra: Mink DeVilleThe following arithmetic trick to determine the age with the help of the shoe size is said to have been shown on Italian television in 1976. Here are the instructions: (1) Multiply your shoe size by 5. (2) Add the number 50. (3) Multiply the result by 20. (4) Add the number 1021 if your birthday has already been celebrated this year (otherwise 1020). (5) Subtract the four-digit year of birth. The first two digits of the result indicate your shoe size, the second two digits your age. The solution of this trick will follow next week, meanwhile here´s Mink DeVille with "Italian Shoes" from 1985: from my musical category "daydreamer"My motto: "Not always the often heard hits."

Belinda Carlisle´s "Heaven Is A Place On Earth" will always remind me of a onset of winter in the first weeks of 1988. It was on a Sunday morning, just after 11 am. On the playlist of Ö3 was "Heaven Is A Place On Earth" with start time at 11.05 am. But since the traffic service took about 7 minutes due to the ...
