An Austrian extra: Mickey Lawrence
Mickey Lawrence (real name Miki Liebermann) is often called an "exceptional guitarist." When asked why she was so fascinated by the guitar, she says: "Because there wasn´t enough room for a piano at home. A guitar and a violin were already in the house, so I started playing the violin first. It was a very old instrument and when an acquaintance of my parents offered to tune it, it broke apart. That´s when I got the guitar." And further: "My mother supported my inclination to music very much. She liked to play her own music, listen to jazz music and gospel, my father operetta and opera and I had my own record player as a child, which I used to play for hours. When I was 15, I started studying classical guitar at the university, for five years, then jazz, rock and funk slowly flowed into it." And asked about a great role model, she says: "One of my great role models was Jimi Hendrix - at the beginning I had great problems finding female role models, because there were hardly any well-known guitarists. At 15, 16 you have a great need for identification - to identify with Jimi Hendrix at the age of a young woman is funny and difficult, it creates fractures. On the other hand, they´re not unhealthy, because then you have to deal with your own role behavior, which I have inevitably done. Somehow you have to find your own way."
From 1984 here´s Mickey Lawrence with "Hold On To Love":
from my musical category "daydreamer" My motto: "Not always the often heard hits."

Cool keyboards plus awesome horns plus great background singers equals one jammin' tune: In 2020, I still have a Top 17 from the 7/25/81 countdown but "Winning" by Santana would move to 5-star status. My Top 30 songs from the 7/29/78 countdown (absolute faves in bold):Top 10: All of 'em! OK, I'll take a crack at it; I say the two despised songs are "Baby Love" by Regina, and "Dancing On The Ceiling" by Lionel Richie. We have a winner! Congrats, slf ! You get your choice of prizes from the AT40 prize closet courtesy the advertisers from the 8/2/86 show: a Baby Ruth candy bar, Sure anti-perspirant, or a six-pack of Hawaiian Punch. With Pontiac listed on the original cue sheet as an advertiser, you were probably hoping for a new car ...
