The Power Of MusicThis week in the "A" show: "Against The Wind" by Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band. The song was heard a few weeks ago in a dedication to the victim of a traffic accident. And it reminded me of a tragic event that happened exactly 30 years ago. In the summer of 1990, the German band "Purple Schulz" released the song "Du hast mir gerade noch gefehlt" ("I just missed you (luckily)"). The song is an absolute declaration of love, which shows itself in the doing of sometimes not quite simple things, such as "A snap of your finger is enough and I run away, get the crown jewels." or "I´ll fly with you to the moon and look for the Easter eggs for you."
I liked the song very much from the beginning, but unfortunately at that time one of my best friends had a tragic motorcycle accident - and so the song was suddenly linked to this tragic event." The mourning was amplified by a song by the
Austrian Wolfgang Ambros, who wrote the song "Mamma" ("Mum") on this topic in 1985. He sings there, "I was a boy at 16 and I remember. A motorcycle and a corpse and all around the people. The blood was on the street and the fright in my brain. But immediately thereafter the moment of reason. The intellectual birth. I will never ride a motorcycle - I can only lose."
I could hear Wolfgang´s "Mamma" again after a few months, with "Purple Schulz" it took much longer.
Today I listen to the song more often, but I won´t forget the connection to this tragedy. And since music is known to be able to overcome boundaries, today - on my birthday - I post this German-speaking and cheerful song at this point - with the indication that I can recognize the joyfulness of this song again.
Here are Purple Schulz with "Du hast mir gerade noch gefehlt":
An
Austrian extra:
Daniele CimitanOnce again: Wolfgang Ambros. Shortly before Christmas 1976, the song "Schifoan" ("skiing") was released as a single and was not particularly successful at first. The popularity of the song, however, soon enjoyed by the après-ski audience in ski huts and discotheques, made the song a secret hit, which Ambros only became aware of when the fans demanded it again and again on his next tour. He himself had not originally included the title in the program. Ambros sings the "Schifoan" ("skiing") in the Stubaital and in Zell am See as "the most beautiful thing you can imagine". The song is regarded as an
Austrian "anthem of winter sports".
In 1983, Daniele Cimitan released the cover version "Mare":
And finally, a "milestone of music", which was once described by the former Ö3-DJ Karl Kaltenegger (who studied journalism and English in Salzburg) as "a noble piece of pop music." For me, the best thing is the end, both musically and lyrically: "To live without my music - would be impossible to do - ´cause in this world of troubles - my music pulls me through" - here are John Miles & The Alan Parsons Project with "Music":
from my musical category "daydreamer"
My motto: "Not always the often heard hits."
