Twenty years later,1988,"What A Wonderful World" was a hit on both the pop & AC charts-That was due to its inclusion in the movie "Good Morning Vietnam". This has nothing to do with the Satellite Survey, but when SiriusXM ran their Top 1000 Oldies Countdown (1955-72) they played that Louis Armstrong song (What A Wonderful World) --when the set up was for the Sam Cooke hit, Wonderful World (Ooops) .

This weekend, there will be a slight departure from the regular format-Host Dave Hoeffel will be playing back the top forty hits from this week in 1970-This was two months before the premiere of "AT40".

Hey, how many of you have been listening to the Top 600 countdown on SiriusXM 60's on 6? I've listened to much of it since 4 PM this afternoon and plan to listen to as much as I can tomorrow. (Which is not saying much; I actually have to work 8 hrs at the warehouse tomorrow on Memorial Day, then I'm getting together with my sister's family for a cookout.) I've enjoyed it so far; there are lots of surprises in these first few hours, obscure oldies that I never guess would be voted on by listeners.
One issue that I can't help pondering in relationship to this countdown is this: How are the people compiling this countdown going to treat songs by the Turtles? Since it is based on votes by listeners, i.e., oldies fans, you know many would have voted for songs by this group. Under normal circumstances, "Happy Together" would be a 100% shoo-in to land high in the countdown, and several other Turtles hits would likely make the cut, also. I would seem shameful for the folks at SiriusXM to disregard the votes of those Turtles fans and omit their duly voted-on songs. Isn't there any way an exception could be make to play "Happy Together" and the rest just this once to maintain honesty and accuracy in this countdown? If these special countdowns cannot be honest and accurate, then why bother hosting them at all?

I[t] would seem shameful for the folks at SiriusXM to disregard the votes of those Turtles fans and omit their duly voted-on songs... When this special first ran on New Year's Eve, I cast my own votes. None of the Turtles' music was ever on the ballot. I'm sure they received plenty of write-ins. I didn't bother with that, knowing it was useless to vote for anything that wouldn't get played. As you'll recall, slf, the Turtles are in this ridiculous standoff with SiriusXM. They settled that big lawsuit several years ago, but 60s on 6 and all the other channels won't touch or talk about their songs or even mention the group on the air. This is in large part because the Turtles' legal action against Pandora over royalties is pending. With SXM and Pandora having joined forces, the policy of both radio services is to block the Turtles from play until this whole hot mess gets worked out.

Any idea when Dave Hoeffel will play part 2 of the Pré-Casey months , from april to june 1970 ? I was expecting to see that show played this past weekend but it was a 1962 regular countdown show. First thought the 1970 show was a one show only ( first quarter of 1970 ) but Dave pointed out it was part 1 of the pre- Casey months , so logically part 2 will concern the other 3 months.

Good news, skyseth. I got the "straight poop," as we in the States are fond of saying, from executive producer Lou Simon. I sent him a quick e-mail, and he answered by saying that part two will air the last weekend in June. A predictable answer, but nonetheless an official one. Stay safe, mon ami!

Which effectively means back to back 1970 as the first weekend in July would be time to replay the first Casey show, likely from both Premiere and SXM, which plays it almost every July 4.

After SiriusXM's 60's on 6 finished playing their Top 600 countdown, I got on the 60's On 6 Dave Hoeffel page on Facebook and checked out the entire list. (I'm glad they posted the whole thing, because I could only listen to parts of it here and there.) I became so engrossed with it that I wrote down every song and its position, not in order, but classified according to artists. l wanted to know what 60's artists were most represented in the countdown. I'd like to post the totals for all acts that had four or more songs in the countdown. (Acts with one, two, or three songs were too numerous to mention.)
The Beatles and the Beach Boys tie for most number of songs with 21 apiece.
The Four Seasons follow with 16 songs.
Next comes the King, Elvis with 12 songs.
Right behind are two British Invasion bands, Herman's Hermits and the Rolling Stones, with 11 and 10 songs, respectively.
Three acts tie with 8 songs apiece: Roy Orbison, Petula Clark, and The Dave Clark Five.
Three more acts tie with 7 songs apiece: The Supremes, Jay And The Americans, and Simon & Garfunkel.
A pair of acts tie with 6 songs apiece: The Drifters and Lesley Gore.
A whopping eleven acts tie with five songs apiece: The Monkees, The Association, Dion, Johnny Rivers, Sam Cooke, Bobby Vee, Gary Lewis & The Playboys, The Four Tops, The Animals, Neil Diamond, and The Righteous Brothers (one of whose songs claimed the #1 spot).
Finally, nine acts tie with four songs apiece: The Temptations, The Mama & The Papas, Gene Pitney, Tommy James & The Shondells, The Byrds, The Rascals, Gary Puckett & The Union Gap, Neil Sedaka, and Frank Sinatra.
Now at the other end of the spectrum, here are four major acts of that decade that were shut out, having zero songs make the countdown: Donovan (no "Sunshine Superman"?) James Brown (no "Papa's Got A Brand New Bag" or "I Got You"?) Sly & The Family Stone (no "Dance To The Music" or "Everyday People"?)
and the biggest surprise of all
Stevie Wonder (no "My Cherie Amour" or "For Once In My Life"?)
(Although I must confess, I didn't vote myself. Either I was unaware of this vote-centered countdown at the time, or I didn't pay it much attention.)

Actually that's a pretty interesting special list. I'd like it if they did the top 40 British hits for each year from 1964-69. (In 1974 Casey did an AT40 special covering the top 40 British hits of the rock era to that point.)
