This weekend show was (January 16-17) 1960. Next weekend is (January 25-26) 1969. Then the following week is a special Top 40 Songs for the weekend (January 31-February 1) 1970. This was announced before the number one of this week in 1960 was played.

Currently January-June 1970 is the only period over 50 years (1960s-2000s) that doesn't get some sort of retro countdown coverage from SXM.

Magic Matt on SXM 70's did a fake AT40 show for the weekend of April 4, 1970 back in 2011.

Does anybody have any tapes of Dan Ingram's Satellite Survey from the '80s, they'd like to post! I'd like to hear 1, on Google, or elsewhere.

Last week I thought they said Love Songs for this week and that is playing now. So much for what they said about a possible 1970 show.

I was confused what Lou said and he follow the AT40 Shows that used the chart date one week ahead as published in Billboard (July 4, 1970 through April 24, 1971 broadcasts) when they were aired.

This weekend's countdown, using the chart of 6/20/70, was awesome. I caught the first run this morning/early afternoon (West Coast time). I only heard the top 20, but wow! One gem after another. But, once Lou Simon got into the top three, things went a little off the rails.[/p]
He made an honest error in introducing the Jackson 5's "The Love You Save." He called it the Jackson 5's fourth single, after "I'll Be There." Of course, as we all know, it should be the other way around.
Then, as is customary on the late '60s episodes, both sides of a double-sided hit were played back-to-back. In this case, it was the Beatles' "The Long and Winding Road," followed by "Old Brown Shoe." Only trouble was, "For You Blue" was actually the B-side!
I raced to the computer, and, as I do every week as a devoted listener of Lou's other show, Talk Talk, I e-mailed him to correct both slips. I made a point of including a link to another site where he could look at photos of the labels from the actual Beatle 45. He responded within five hours. (Not bad, right?) He said the Jackson 5 thing didn't quite sound right as it was coming out of his mouth (LOL). As for the wrong Beatles track being heard, he explained that he hadn't had a chance to catch the end of the show, but that he would talk to his people and have it fixed. So...If you catch either the Sunday morning or Wednesday night show, and you hear "For You Blue," that's 'cuz of me!

See the AT40 on XM thread, page 252, for more insights on this fine program, particularly the 1970 episodes.

I don't know what's going on--Sirius had 1968 listed for this past weekend but Tommy James did a repeat of One Hit Wonders from 2011.

I don't know what's going on--Sirius had 1968 listed for this past weekend but Tommy James did a repeat of One Hit Wonders from 2011. When Lou went on the air tonight with The Diner, a caller asked him about that. He simply explained that he had been too busy to complete the new Survey show. It's understandable considering he's programming about six different SiriusXM channels. He often says that, with so many good Surveys in the archives, he has no qualms about re-running them when the need arises.

They have started to do new shows for the Satellite Survey again, and although they are doing it after endless reruns, it has been reduced to a Top 30 to eliminate listener complaints. At the same time, it really isn't the same unfortunately now that the new PD (Ken Merson) has taken over.
I think a lot of people will miss Lou Simon putting them together - will be big shoes to fill...

It is nice to have new shows, as Lou Simon was getting very busy and many of the shows were repeats, and that may be why he passed the show on to Ken Merson. I am curious if we will just get the Top 30 from the current week of the years 1960 to 1969 or special countdowns that Lou did. Did anyone by any chance catch the year he will be doing for the weekend of September 16-17?

Thanks so much, mkarns. I wish Ken Merson great success as the new host of the 60's Satellite Survey. He seems to be keeping the show right at 2 hours. I observed the 1968 show having fewer extras since the songs were longer in 1968 (first show) versus last week's 1964 show when the songs were between 2 and 3 minutes in length. I also love how Ken uses the Billboard chart from the date he features because Lou Simon didn't always use Billboard.
