Hi,doofus67,I noticed a slight error on the countdown list from 6/27/64-You had "Alone" listed by The New Seekers at # 38-It was actually The Four Seasons.

Thanks, Mr. J. The New Seekers didn't even start making records until 1969-70! Where did I get that from???

Thanks, doofus67, for posting the songs from this weekend's survey. There were many exceptional songs on that countdown.
But I had to do a double take when I examined your intro to that post, the part where you stated that the chart data was from CASHBOX, not Billboard. Did Dave Hoeffel specify during or after the countdown that the chart data from Ranking The '70's was from Cashbox? My copy of Ranking The '60's seems to imply that data from BB, Cashbox, and Record World went into determining the rankings of songs from that decade.

Catching the first few minutes of this now...hopefully it's something I can record and walk away from, to listen to later. In the middle of a grueling work schedule stretch right now, but got some time off mid-week. Pretty soon I'm going to start listening to the first AT40 show, then all the shows in order through the 1977 year-end.
Not overly familiar with this show (I wish I was), but enjoying it so far. Dave Hoeffel does a nice job hosting; smooth delivery.
I found a site a while back that has 60s Satellite Survey full shows from early fall 2013 through late summer 2014. Most feature the corresponding week from a 60s year, with an occasional special. Lou Simon hosted those.

OWTC, if you get the SiriusXM app, you can download an episode onto your device and keep it until it expires. Usually that's about six to eight weeks. This pre-Casey show is a really good one to start with. The Lou Simon shows were more in-depth, more nerdy if you will. They were longer, because Lou would have more personal reflections on the artists and the songs, and because he would play more extras. Enjoy! I hear you about the tough work schedule thing. As I post this, I'm diving into at least a two-week stretch in which I'm doing my main job full-time and overnight while juggling it with my other two jobs! This makes me look productive to the surveillance camera while things are slow. Take care of yourself, and stay safe.

slf, I'll quote what Dann Isbell and Bill Carroll wrote in the preface to RT70s:
"Both the authors gratefully acknowledge the Cash Box brain trust: Bruce Elrod, Christopher Elrod, and Doug Stroud for granting permission to slice and dice the 'Top 100' charts in this fashion. Kudos also go to Randy Price, a master chartologist in his own right, who adapted them for the web.
"The owners of the charts encourage enthusiasts to use their lists, and we encourage readers to refer to them to put our rankings in context. We applaud Cash Box for its open access approach to its charts."
It's been two years now since I first connected with Dr. Carroll on Facebook. (These days, we e-mail back and forth. Apologies for sounding like a big shot.) I asked him why the comprehensive mix of chart sources in RT60s was set aside in favor of Cash Box exclusively. He said that it was easier to acquire and retain the licensing rights.
So it was more a matter of convenience than a matter of preference -- even though we chart hounds on this Forum seem to agree that CB was a more accurate and realistic chart in the 70s than BB.
Hope that helps...
