R.I.P. Casey A true icon in the entertainment industry without whom none of us would've known each other. He truly brought people together with the hits and his unique brand of storytelling.

Prayers for all who loved Casey. Our world is lesser; there's one less star on Earth.

My local affiliate KOLA 99.9 FM out of Redlands, California, played 1979's "Pilot of the Airwaves" by Charlie Dore interspersed with various Casey Kasem clips after their rebroadcast of today's countdown from June 14th, 1975 at 10 AM PDT sharp...

I will say more at some point. I have purposely not talked about this at all on here, just because any words I could say would not do justice. I will say this: as much as I loved Casey for introducing pop music into my life and being a cornerstone of my formative years, I love him more for his service to humanity and for his champion of people, and creatures, across the world. Thank you Casey for the difference you made in this world. May God continue to bless all of the Kasem family, all of his friends, and all of us who are truly devastated by the passing of an amazing human being.

From Rick Dees:
Sad to hear the news this morning. I enjoyed sharing the same space on the radio with Casey. Our friendly competition lead to years of friendship and respect. We will all miss his style, his voice, and his ability to communicate. Casey was an original who can’t be replaced. -Rick Dees

I'm truly saddened by the news today. I followed Casey beginning in 1974. In 1975, I won a vinyl copy of AT40 from my local affiliate. I will never forget that day. When I heard my name announced that I had won, I ran out of the house to tell my neighbors, and THEY were already on the way to my house because they had heard the news as well. THAT SHOW is the one being played this weekend on the 70's version of AT40. Crazy sometimes how the stars align.

Casey Kasem really made the countdowns count for sure. Sad we won't be hearing his voice anymore except on retro rebroadcasts of AT40 and in reruns of Scooby-Doo. Sad that another legend has left us, and on Father's Day of all days. R.I.P. Mr. Kasem. And keep reaching for the stars. And by the way, even though I am not a fan of the current AT40, I may make a rare exception in the coming weeks in case Ryan may do a tribute to the late Casey Kasem at any time. I am sure there will be a tribute in some form before July.

Here are 4 tributes from Wink Martindale, Rich Fields, Carson Daly, and one of his Scooby Doo costars Grey DeLisle-Griffin from Twitter
Wink Martindale: "A fond memory of Casey. When he briefly left hosting America's Top 40 to begin an acting career, he offered me the gig! Quite an honor." Rich Fields: "Sad news that #CaseyKasem has passed away this #FathersDay. He was the reason I got into radio. #GodBless" Carson Daily: "Long before MTV and the internet #CaseyKasem made sure you were hearing the best music out there. Peace be to his family and RIP. #Respect" Grey DeLisle-Griffin: "R.I.P Casey Kasem, one of the best dads on the planet! You loved your kids SO MUCH! We miss you already!!!!"

What a great clip in the post above! Nice that they included a piece from a CT40...the year end 1993 show and neat that they segued from a Brittney Spears intro to the first LDD because both are from Louisiana. BTW, is that Kerri that is posing with Casey with an award that he won in the photos? Thanks for sharing.
