CNN just mentioned his death in a scroll at the bottom of the screen. Give the news stations time to actually report...you know...news. They have to have their weekly Sunday morning argument sessions resolving nothing between Democrats and Republicans before they can get to anything important.

I had decided back in March that my next and last post here would be when Casey died; sadly that day has come. Every Sunday for decades, I would listen to Mr. Kasem and his various iterations of the Top 40 countdown. After he left in 1988, it became clear to me that it wasn't American Top 40 the show I wanted to listen to, it was Casey Kasem, the host of American Top 40. Casey's Top 40 may not have used my beloved Hot 100, but Casey's voice more than made up for that. A true testament to my love of Mr. Kasem is that I listened to him right up until he retired from AT40, despite loathing nearly 80% of what was on the chart at the time.
When my mom passed away this past January, I was surprised to find that one of the things I treasured most wasn't the photographs or home movies, it was the cassette tapes my father made when I was growing up. My mom was front and center in those tapes, and while I hadn't listened to them in decades, they brought back fond memories for me. Casey Kasem's image is all over the place, from his America's Top 10 days, to his cameos on television shows, to his participation in many awards shows and telethons. For me, the way I'll always choose to connect with Casey will be through his Top 40 radio shows. Just like the tapes of my mom, they'll immediately take me back to a time in my life that I will treasure always.

In my life (so far) It's rare that a man (that I DON'T know personally) could enter my life through the radio & leave such a LASTING impression that from now & all of time, I will truly call him friend!
Casey was & will ALWAYS be that to me. By his legions of fans I know I'm not alone in feeling that way. It's a very sad day indeed but, know that the truly great ones live on in your heart, mind, soul & the very SAME place you first met...the radio.
For me Casey will always be here saying "Until next week when once again We'll countdown the 40 biggest hits on the Pop Chart...
I'll be waiting next week & EVERY week that follows. Casey Kasem "a forever friend"

Condolences to all fellow board members, AT40 fans and others touched one way or another by the spirit of great Casey through the airwaves; and what he contributed to our understanding of music, charts, trivia, radio and endless other familiar knowledge we might take for granted.
Despite all our differences and various areas of expertise, what binds us together is how Casey and his shows were instrumental in our lives; in my case sparking the best memories of my younger days via retro-shows, as his spirit lives on and “The Countdown Continues” and we” keep reaching for the stars”.

I found this News minutes ago. Although his health problems had been known for a while now, I am still very sad. I have enjoyed listening to him on the old Countdown shows since 2010. Also, I remember listening to another show with him in the 1990s. Thank you very much, Casey Kasem. My condolences will go to his family as they confront this very difficult situation.

May Casey now rest in peace. It was nice and fitting his passing occurred on Sunday Morning, when I normally listen to his show. I'm listening to American Top 40 the 80s with Casey Kasem right now during his passing. I'll have Casey on for the rest of the day.

To: Casey's Family ,Friends and fans, I feel heart broken at the reality of Casey's passing. I know he is at peace now. It sill doesn't take away the heartbreak of loosing someone you love. Casey touched so many lives, both publicly and more importantly as a Father, Grandfather, Husband and friend. I lost my Father to cancer last October 6th. This too is my first Fathers Day without him. As a fan of Casey's, I collected and enjoyed many of his programs. My best memories for the search for that special program, was the time I got to spend with my Father as a teen, taking road trips to various radio stations to find them. In some ways it all intersects. It's certainly not easy to loose a Father. Just knowing that you were loved by him as a Father and can see him in yourselves, can be a true gift. And the many dreams about him that follow, will be a true comfort!! To fans of Casey, there is the long legacy of recordings to enjoy long after we are all gone too. I know, second to his family and close friends, he must of been very proud of his body of work. still, it will seems empty, knowing he is not here with us. I sincerely wish everyone close to him comfort. You are not alone. Justin Nicholson (jayenn71)

A part of my life for Sunday mornings from the late 70s through the mid 90s is gone. I fell in love with AT40 when I was in 6th grade, and I loved seeing his America's Top 10 show on TV. While I was upset that he left AT40 in '88, it was great hearing him again when Casey's Top 40 started in '89. Any countdown show isn't the same without him.
God bless you Casey, and thanks for keeping all of America up to date with our favorite Top 40 songs. His family and everyone he worked with at AT40 and CT40 are in my prayers.

Rest in peace, Casey, and my thoughts and sympathies are with his family. Now begins his shift with Alan Freed, Al Jarvis, and Dick Clark at that great radio station in the sky.
