AT40 - The 70's this week's show from 12/10/1977 "Turn to Stone" by Electric Light Orchestra debuting at #36 had its second verse and chorus edited out plus... Yes, I'm turnin' to stone 'Cause you ain't coming home Why ain't you comin' home If I'm turnin' to stone You've been gone for so long And I can't carry on Yes, I'm turnin', I'm turnin' I'm turnin' to stone Original or Premiere? That one was Premiere, even though in this era the original edits occurred more often.

On AT40: The 70's 12/10/1977 the second verse and chorus of "You Can't Turn Me Off" by High Inergy was omitted, it may be either an edit originally by Watermark or current by Premiere. Premiere.

I am now listing to AT40: The 70's 12/11/1976 this Saturday afternoon via WVLI Kankakee, and the #40 song "Whispering/Churchez La Femme/Se Si Bon" by the Dr. Buzzard Original Savannah Band is edited to about 1 minute and some seconds - Is it a Premiere edit? Also edited on 12/11/1976 - The #39 song "I Like Dreaming" by Kenny Nolan - also a Premiere edit? I didn't even like the #10 song of "Nights are Forever Without You" by England Dan and John Ford Coley being edited to about a minute and a 1/2! Also done by Premiere? All Premiere edits...surprisingly. I thought before checking at least one of those would be original.

On AT40: The 80's 12/27/1986 "Word Up" by Cameo was edited again omitting the second verse and playing only a little bit of one of the 2 choruses. Might be a Premiere edit?

Does Premiere have to always edit out verse #2 (Starts with "Hey Superman where are you now...") everytime "Land of Confusion" is played on a late 1986-1987 AT40: The 80's episode - even in the 12/27/1986 show?

Like "Eyes Without A Face" in 1984, it's an easy song to edit. BTW, this was an original edit, not Premiere this time. ETA: The original shows that have the frequently omitted second verse are as follows, beginning with its debut week of 11/15/1986: 11/15, 11/22, 11/29, 12/6, 12/13, 12/20, 1/10, 1/17, 1/24, 1/31*, 2/14, 2/21 (final week) * - peak date (#4) So it was only edited in two original shows during its entire run in the 40, those being 12/27 (the show we just heard this weekend), and 2/7 (the week after it peaked). And obviously edited in the original 1987 year-end countdown (as were a number of songs to fit into the 8-hour timeframe). So anytime you hear any of these shows and you notice the second verse edited out, unless it's 12/27 or 2/7, or the 1987 year-end, it was a Premiere edit.

As I am listening to AT40: The 70's Top 50...uh...37 of 1979 on WMGN Magic 98 I noticed the #3 song of 1979 "Le Freak" by Chic was edited by omitting the instrumental bridge going into the reprise of the second verse prior to the "Freak Out, Le Freak, so Chic.." chorus - Original or Premiere edit? Flash forward to 1/8/2022 and "Le Freak" is fully restored with instrumental bridge that was missing in the 2016-2017 airing in part 2 of the Top 100 of 1979 as I listen to it via WVLI Kankakee, Illinois.

Listening today to the Top 100 of 1979 part 2, I noticed three songs that had different versions from what was in the original show. AT40 played the Lp version of "My Life" at #28 on the original show. It was replaced by the 45 version. The next one was "Mac Arthur Park" at #12. In the original show it was edited with a bad edit. On this show it had a different edited. Finally, on the original show "Da Ya think I'm sexy" was an edited of the Lp/stock 45 version. The second verse was cut out. On the new version "Da ya Think I'm Sexy" was replaced by the promotional 45 edit.

On AT40: The 70's 1/15/1977 - there was no outro about Rod Stewart by Casey with "Tonight's the Night" was fading out that it went into the question letter?

On AT40: The 70's 1/21/1978 there were 2 or 3 teases before the commercial break of question letters that were edited out (I bet Ken Martin's Supersized 1/21/1978 version restored these!).
On AT40: The 80's 1/26/1985 "The Wild Boys" had the second verse edited out - Premiere edit, I presume?

Correct; the original show didn't have it, and I remember it being noted in Pete's book. Something close to that happened on this week's AT40; Ryan mentions The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber at #3, in which the jingle immediately follows. The song title isn't mentioned, nor is a teaser that builds up to the top 2 that is normally there. Take the little bit out that Ryan does mention, and you've got a 1/15/1977 repeat scenario.

On AT40: The 70's 1/31/1976, David Ruffin's "Walk Away From Love" was under 2 minutes!

There should be one or two more like that. It's typical for 1976 (and 1977 and 78 for that matter). I make up for it by listening to the Lp version on youTube. And the one for "Walk Away From Love" is a great song. Thought that version was played on one of the shows during its chart run but Pete's book does not indicate as such. Will have to check that out further.
