The first hour of 1/21/84 went all the way from 40 to 30, so I bet most edits there were original. I think "All Night Long" (#23) was shortened originally as well, judging from the relatively short segment on the cue sheet. Premiere is obviously to blame for editing the optional extras, which increasingly make the songs sound as they might have if AT40 had never expanded to four hours.
And on 1/25/75, I think "Nightingale" was cut far too short. (By contrast, "Get Dancin" went on too long IMO.)

I don't know if anyone can verify this but on the year end countdown it sounded like they played the long version of "Baker Street" but cut the ending of it.

What the producer of '20 the countdown magazine' has started to do is, edit the 2nd verse off MercyMe's 'Greater'. Hard to believe that the Christian AC singles are starting to get longer.

On this week's Casey Kasem's AT40 countdown B show from February 14th, 1976, "Evil Woman" by The Electric Light Orchestra had its 3rd verse edited out and clocked in at 1:50! Original or Premiere?

That may not be Premiere's fault as it is part of a three song segment that originally came in at only 9 minutes and 19 seconds, including jingles and Casey's talking. Still, what's with the ELO butchery? A few weeks ago I heard a show from a year later when they did the same thing to "Livin' Thing". The songs aren't that long.

'Billie Jean' was noticeably edited on the 2-12-83 show. Also, I found it strange that Premiere would give us an '83 show so soon, after they gave us 1-15-83, just last month

KOKZ just had a weird edit, they had a commercial right in the middle of a normal American Top 40 segment, between #11 Lay Down Sally - Eric Clapton and #10 How Deep Is Your Love - Bee Gees!

Lotta edits on the 2-18-78 show. Dave... check out the cue sheet from the original airing of this show: charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/02-18-78.pdfThere were many songs edited in the original airing. For example, Dust In The Wind, Goodbye Girl and Jack & Jill (#38, #37 and #36) clock in at only 9:51 so one or more songs were edited or shortened. This is partly why AT40 expanded to four hours later in 1978. Most singles were getting too long to be played as is without a few songs each hour being shortened or edited. Dave... just curious... after 15 months of mentioning what songs get edited... does it get old complaining about the edits?

Having just one song before the first break in the final hour in the Watermark era was/is rather odd in itself. So, in the Premiere scheme of things... the first segment of the hour [part 9 on the company cue sheet] is #13 to #11, and the second [part 10] is #10 to #7 ? dL

Just for the record and I am basing this on my knowing all of these songs like the back of my hand as opposed to a cue sheet. Of course, cue sheets by themselves don't necessarily tell you but is association with hearing the show would be the best way to determine edits. Anyway, that 3 song segment referenced above includes the only edit I noticed in the first 2 hours....a verse from "Jack and Jill". There were some edits in the third hour but at least that can be attributed to the Stevie Wonder extra in that hour.

Did The 80's have something similar?
