Interesting that you mention those 2 acts because either their last or next to last hits were produced by Jim Steinman. Since his production style dovetailed with Barry's building a song as it nears the end style, there was not much of a difference even then. However, I thought "Making Love Out of Nothing at All" was a definite departure from their sound as a result of Steinman's production. And it's my fave Air Supply song by a hair over "Lost in Love". Was reading old posts and gotta say that I think Sweet Dreams, Making Love Out Of Nothing At All and Just As I Am were very different from the rest. Hits wise, the others sound the same but taking into consideration album cuts, they had some other sounds. Just did a 2 hour profile show on them and gotta say, was very impressed with them.

MJ's later solo work (They Don't Care About Us) sounded a lot like Jackson's Heartbreak Hotel.

It recently occurred to me that the music from Bob Seger's "Shame On The Moon" is a mellower copy of the music from "Fire Lake."

Styx-"Fooling Yourself (Angry Young Man)" = "Why Me" The only difference was "Fooling Yourself" was sung by Tommy Shaw and "Why Me" was sung by Dennis DeYoung.

A #38 song on AT40: The 70's 10/14/1972 by David Cassidy called "Rock Me Baby" sounded like it could have been done by Little Richard ("Good Golly Miss Molly", "Lucille", etc.) for a 1970's comeback attempt since David uses the style of Little Richard's "WOOOO" in the song.

7 pages in, and nobody has mentioned AC/DC? Seems like all their songs sound the same.

Tall Cool One sounds like Plant's earlier Zeppelin work, especially Black Dog.

Ace of Base-All That She Wants/The Sign. Practically the same synth beat.
