For example on this week's AT40 from 1983, Casey played Just To Be Close To You, which in my opinion is a dead ringer for Lionel Richie's later solo Don't Wanna Lose You.
Other examples I thought of:
Osmonds: One Bad Apple>Double Lovin' BeeGees: Jive Talkin'>One Doobies: China Grove>The Doctor Rick Astley: Never Gonna Give You Up>Together Forever Early 70s James Brown>any other early 70s James Brown
Any others?

I worked with a guy who thought Janet Jackson's "Escapade" sounded just like "What Have You Done for Me Lately".

And I know this is pretty current, but how about the group No Mercy - their song "Where Do You Go" had a follow up single which sounded EXACTLY like it.

Also add "Sweet Lui-Louise" by Randy Bachman's other group, Ironhorse. Plus, Night Ranger's "Sister Christian" and "Sentimental Street". And then there's John Fogerty with CCR's "Run Through the Jungle" (charted as a B-side only) and solo hit "The Old Man Down the Road", which he ended up getting sued over.
