I was just listening to this song, and realized how much it sounds like the other - I don't see her mentioned anywhere on here:
Juice Newton - "Love's Been A Little Bit Hard On Me" and "Queen Of Hearts"

I don't know if this was mentioned before, but "Taurus" by Dennis Coffey kinda sounds like his previous single "Scorpio".

Whitney Houston: How Will I Know>I Wanna Dance with Somebody How about Whitney's "How Will I Know" and Aretha's "Who's Zoomin' Who"? When "How Will I Know" came out at the beginning of 1986, I thought it was a blatant rip-off of Aretha's hit from a few months earlier. Come to find out that both were co-written and produced by...Narada Michael Walden. And given the release dates of the two albums they were from, it's a good bet that both were recorded right around the same time...Mr. Walden got his money's worth out of that(those) tune(s).

Here's a pretty easily explicable one: Survivor's "Burning Heart" sounds a lot like "Eye of the Tiger". Which is pretty symbolic; just as Rocky IV followed Rocky III, BH is a definite sequel to EOTT. No doubt about this one...

I always thought Air Supply's 1981 #1 "The One That You Love" was borrowing too liberally from 1980's #2 "All Out Of Love." I thought pretty much all of Air Supply's songs sounded the same. The only one that was different was their very last hit, "Just As I Am" from 1985. "Lost In Love" had a unique sound because it was their first hit, but their act grew tired pretty quickly. Same with Barry Manilow...all of his ballads sounded the same to me. Probably explains why the only songs I like of his are his three uptempo gd numbers (two of which we heard this past weekend, btw): "It's a Miracle", "Copacabana", and "Some Kind of Friend".

Interesting that you mention those 2 acts because either their last or next to last hits were produced by Jim Steinman. Since his production style dovetailed with Barry's building a song as it nears the end style, there was not much of a difference even then. However, I thought "Making Love Out of Nothing at All" was a definite departure from their sound as a result of Steinman's production. And it's my fave Air Supply song by a hair over "Lost in Love".

This is not exactly on topic, but it's an interesting story.
The first week of 1970 saw the debut of "Thank You Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin". It would become their second #1 single. At the end of February, a female vocal trio called Little Sister released "You're The One - Part II" which would peak at number 22. The instrumental track sounds similar to Sly's "Thank You".
Conversely at the end of 1970, Little Sister's follow up "Somebody's Watching You" reached #32. In November 1971, Sly & The Family Stone released "Family Affair" their third #1 single. The instrumental track has similarities to the Little Sister song.
Little Sister was formed by Sly and included his "little sister" Vaetta. They were back-up vocalists for Sly and the Family Stone. "Somebody's Watching You" is also a cover of a Sly and the Family Stone track.
