It's not surprising to me. I figured radio stations won't play "Die Young" after what happened in Connecticut (although I still heard "Die Young" playing this afternoon while I was in SUBWAY for lunch). The fact that "Die Young" was #1 on AT40 this past weekend was bad timing.

The fact that "Die Young" was #1 on AT40 this past weekend was bad timing. Not like they could have done anything about that, though. All things considered, I'm thinking it likely would have spent one more week on top on its own merits before Bruno takes over otherwise. As it stands, he'll probably simply move into the top spot to start 2013. But then again, it's debatable as to whether that wouldn't simply have happened anyway.

I wonder if "Die Young" inspired this guy to commit to the shootings? If so, I can see why the song would be pulled off the air - it's a bad influence on today's youth.
In today's world, there seems to be sick kids who get so darn obsessed over today's music, and end up treating it like gospel.

Kind of a stretch to think that the title of a song would inspire a shooting (since the actual song lyrics are nothing about violence). People are just so d**n oversensitive these days.

Unbelievably Ke$ha fell to #2 on this weekend's AT40 and this is a few weeks removed from the Newtown tragedy.
If AT40 still went by the format they had pre-Seacrest, "Die Young" would've been at #5.

Who can we assume the drop? Isn't AT40s chart based on their own affiliate base now and not Mediabase 24/7s official chart? Wouldn't that make a difference?

Looks like it only drops to #6 this week. Curious where this song is on the Billboard Hot 100? I'm sure it's out of the top 20. Does anyone know?

Looks like it only drops to #6 this week. And it matches the position that would've been on AT40 had they went with the actual Mediabase chart and not with the affiliate one.

This weekend, "Die Young" falls even further to #13 and that's lower than the printed Mediabase chart has it (#9).

I'm quite shocked that "Die Young" is still retaining staying power on AT40 as we head into February, despite all the controversy after the shooting. It's possible that the song may cling on through the spring now.
Guess people like the song, and still gets lots of radio airplay (possibly). Or maybe they are downloading the song more, now that the single is pulled.
