The 7/28/79 countdown included no fewer than six songs that hit #1 in Radio & Records but not Billboard: "Shine a Little Love" Speaking about this, does anybody here have a chart rundown of every Electric Light Orchestra single hit that made Radio & Records charts between 1973-1986 and from 2001? Please. Thanks in advance!

Does anyone remember what chart the TV show "Solid Gold" used? I seem to remember a song (don't remember the title, though) where a song at number 10 wasn't even on AT40 so I know they didn't use Billboard Hot 100.

I do remember that "All Right Now" by Rod Stewart and "Baby Come And Get It" were in the Solid Gold Top Ten, but never appeared on AT40 or R&R.

Judging from the YouTube clips I've seen of "Solid Gold", I think they used the Radio & Records chart during their first season (1980-81) and afterwards used their own chart that did not match any published survey.

Here is a clip from the very first episode of Solid Gold & it matches up with the R&R chart just like mkarns mentions. The show is the Top 50 hits of 1979. www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-CJji921gM

Actually, it is the guy Charlie Van Dyke replaced at L.A. radio station KRTH in 1998, the late Robert W Morgan.

Pretty sure "I Gotta Try" by Michael McDonald and "Dinner With Gershwin" by Donna Summer hit the top 10 on 'Solid Gold' even though they missed the top 40 on Billboard.

The Beach Boys' cover of "California Dreamin'" also hit Solid Gold's top 10, IIRC.

Another song I know that missed Billboard's Hot 100 top 40/AT40 reaches but made Solid Gold's Top 10 is "Blame It on the Radio" by John Parr (1986). Also made Solid Gold's Top 10 but missed Billboard's AT40 reaches was "Reaction to Action" by Foreigner in 1985. So did Sheena Easton's "Swear" also in 1985. Even "Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming" by Jermaine Jackson in 1984 and "Into the Groove" by Madonna in 1985 made the Solid Gold Top 10 without making Billboard's Hot 100 chart at all!

'Solid Gold's' top 10 list was probably even less authoritative than 'American Bandstand's'.

The mid to late 80's saw Billboard and R&R in more alignment but you still saw some songs chart fairly high on Billboard that did not chart on R and R. The two biggest I can think of from 1986-1989 are "Digital Display" by Ready for the World (#21 on Billboard/DNC on R&R) in 1986 and "Into The Night" by Benny Mardones in 1989 (#20 Billboard/DNC R&R).
Also 2 Live Crew went top 30 in 1989 and top 20 in 1990 on Billboard and did not chart on R&R.
