As for day of the week, it may be a coincidence more than anything. Back in the day Thursday was a big day for ratings. Remember when you could win $1,000 a day and $10,000 on Thursdays during promo weeks? Those days are long gone, but some veteran programmers may still think that way.
Other factors for a Christmas flip can include community events or even weather. I know some stations would choose the first cold day or day with a bit of snow in early to mid November to make the flip, especially if competition wasn't an issue.

WXXM Rewind 92.1 has flipped. They are a new 70s and 80s affiliate. WMJI Cleveland flipping today at 5. No longer an affiliate, but WODC Columbus is also flipping today at 5. But will WXXM play the AT40 Christmas shows or wait until after Christmas when they are back to the "We Play Anything" format to resume the AT40 shows in time for the annual AT40 70's/80's year end countdown entries? I know former AT20 AC/AT10 station WLIT 93.9 Chicago goes all Christmas today for the 20th. year in a row on November 6, 2020 at 4 PM Chicago time. I can add one more 2020 Christmas factor for the Christmas formats: The 2020 Presidental Election Trump VS. Biden overtime similar to the 2000 Election (Hanging chads not included!)

While Ken Martin’s editing has enhanced AT40’s All-Time Christmas Hits special of 1971 – which is available from Premiere this weekend – part of this particular show is no longer relevant. And yet, it’s still incomplete, with Casey’s mail-in offers now deleted from the program. Here is the original closing to the 1971’s Christmas special, with Casey adding a bow to the package after wrapping up the show’s credits. Does anyone still have their original AT40 lists from 1971? soundcloud.com/petebattistini/at40-1971-12-25-71-closing (deleted) Note also, *the mood-setting church bells slightly audible as background during Casey’s closing *this was the last time Casey simultaneously included both Bill Hergonson and Ben Marichal in the program credits; “Cap’n Billy” left Watermark about a month after this show *the audio (posted here temporarily) is not intended for copying, only for demonstration purposes Season’s Greetings!

Perhaps someone can confirm that the flipped stations are playing this weekend's 1971 Christmas show. TIA KOOL 108 Twin Cities does not play AT40: The 80's nor the AT40 Christmas shows on the 3 hour AT40: The 80's Saturday morning time slot when it's all Christmas music mode.

WXXM Rewind 92.1 Madison is now playing this Saturday morning the first of the AT40 Christmas Shows - This week it's the 1971 Christmas countdown!
Unlike KOOL 108 Twin Cities and 3WS Pittsburgh - I bet WXXM will play the other AT40 Christmas shows in the weeks to come.

It seems to me that all of the iHeart stations that flip throughout the month all flipped at 5pm yesterday (save for a few that flipped early in the week). They also all ran the same Christmas intro with feel good sound clips and a promo for their night before Thanksgiving iHeart Christmas show that will air on all the Christmas stations.
Another example of programming coming from a regional and a national level with iHeart.

An update on the WXXM Rewind 92.1 Madison, Wisconsin AT40 airings of the Christmas shows during WXXM's Christmas sweep: The shows will air in the Saturday 8 AM (CST) and Sunday 8 AM (CST) slots but not the Saturday 8 PM (CST) and Sunday 5 PM (CST) time slots.
