In 1972 Rod Stewart's cover of a posthumously released Hendrix song "Angel" reached #40, but on AT40 they played the b-side "Lost Paraguayos" instead by mistake. The folks from Paraguay weren't lost (Paraguayos perdidos), but just "Los Paraguayos". ;D ...and I remember listening to that show and wondering why they played the 'B' side!

1971 is my favorite year! Three others I liked from the 4/17/71 Hot 100: - Boz Scaggs - We Were Always Sweethearts: Great early single. Still putting out great music as evidenced by his recent CD "Memphis". - Sugarloaf - Tongue In Cheek: Recommend the 7 + minute album version. - Stephen Stills - Sit Yourself Down: Recently a 4 CD box set of Stephen Stills' career was released with a lot of help from Graham Nash. I am still amazed that they failed to include this song among the 90 + tracks.

Just checked and the single says "Lost Paraguayos," I guess either a typo or perhaps a joke.

Offering a lost classic from 4/29/78, which failed to reach Billboard's top 40 but receives occasional airplay on classic rock stations: "Wheel in the Sky" - Journey www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgZk1stCA1AAlso, a decent cover of Dion Di Muci's hit from early 1962: "The Wanderer" - Leif Garrett www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJ9-8jvEYFcI usually only post one song to this thread, but couldn't choose between the two above .

So, its current replay more likely falls between "occasional" and "constant".

Offering a lost classic from 5/10/75, which failed to reach Billboard's top 40; it's a nice cover of the Reflections' hit from spring 1964: "(Just Like) Romeo and Juliet" - Sha Na Na www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yx6lHg5LLSc

It was in pretty heavy rotation that year on NYC's WKTU, which was one of the first "mellow rock" formats at the time (this was 3 years before they became "Disco 92"). Sha Na Na, despite being known as a nostalgia novelty act, made some good records -- another was "Top 40 of the Lord".

One of the last singles I remember that was released in mono rather than stereo. www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEt9PPBGfJA"Real Man" - Todd Rundgren. It's perplexing that he has never even been nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. www.youtube.com/watch?v=HavIYhoAiUE

Offering a lost classic from 5/14/77, which failed to reach Billboard's top 40; it's a fair cover (with, imho, a Bay City Rollers sound) of the Tommy James & the Shondells early 1967 hit: "I Think We're Alone Now" - The Rubinoos www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHuKp8774p8

I remember Casey saying something to that effect during the chart run of "Bang a Gong". 5 hits IIRC so a big year for them then.
