The singer on this week's lost 70s classic from February 26, 1972 is quite a dame. Her only top 40 hit in the US peaked at #8 in 1964. Like her 1964 hit, this was the theme to a James Bond movie. It moved from 69-66 in its fifth week on the Hot 100. The song would peak at #57 for two weeks, and chart for 9 weeks. Diamonds Are Forever - Dame Shirley Bassey------------------------------------------------- From February 21, 1976, this week's lost 70s classic single was released from a greatest hits package. The band went their separate ways in 1972. Gladys Knight & the Pips took it to #2, and a year later Marvin Gaye sat at the Top of the Hot 100 for 7 weeks. This cover was originally recorded in 1970, and this chart run would last 8 weeks and peak at #43. I Heard It Through The Grapevine - Creedence Clearwater Revival

Only So Much Oil In The Ground - Tower Of Power---------------------------------------------------- The lost 70s classic from March 5, 1977 peaked at #60 during a 7 week chart run. This was the group's follow-up to their comeback single "Lost Without Your Love" which peaked at #9. Hooked On You - Bread

The lost 70s classic from March 10, 1979 has reached its #43 peak the previous week. It remained in the Hot 100 for nine weeks. Having gone to college in Denver, this group created quite a buzz locally when their first album was released in 1976. This single was the follow up to their #11 hit "Strange Way". It did make the Top 10 on the AC charts. Goodbye, I Love You - Firefall---------------------------------- The "Queen Of The Covers" hadn't hit her stride when she released this lost 70s classic from March 11, 1972. Her version preceded Jackson Browne's original on the Hot 100 by 5 months, but would only peak at #85 and chart 3 weeks. Jackson Browne's original would be more successful, but would also fall short of the Top 40, reaching #48. Rock Me On The Water - Linda Ronstadt

The lost 70s classic for April 8, 1972 brought Kenny Loggins and Jim Messina together with "Vahevala", which was bubbling under the Hot 100 at #105. With a Jamaican sound, the single eventually peaked at #84 with just 5 weeks on the chart. www.youtube.com/watch?v=SevJD7AaOuY

For SOLAR ECLIPSE DAY 2024, I bring you this lost 1970's classic taken from the 1977 Barry Manilow Live album. This is Barry Manilow's V.S.M. - Very Strange Medley of commercial jingles which Barry sang on in the past - Kentucky Fried Chicken, State Farm Insurance, Stridex, Bowlene Toilet Bowl Cleaner, Dr. Pepper, Pepsi, and McDonalds: www.youtube.com/watch?v=cumh85vz-1YNote the last one in the Medley for McDonald's - It's the original "You Deserve a Break Today" jingle that was covered by the Hillside Singers in 1972 as "We're Together".
