Have they ever played the version of Devil Inside with the line "it's hard to believe we need a place called Hell"? I've only heard the one heard in this week's countdown. I'm going to double-check this with the available shows I have, but it looks like this could be a case similar to that of "Money For Nothing" - turns out that the album version of the INXS song clocks in at 5:11, while the single version is 3:55. I'd be willing to bet that the offending verse is the difference between the two.

Is the version of Always Something There to Remind Me with the explosion noises in the intro the album version of the song?

Is the version of Always Something There to Remind Me with the explosion noises in the intro the album version of the song? I believe that was the video version. To the best of my knowledge it was only issued on 45. www.youtube.com/watch?v=6c9HRsRi-cE

I remember a version of "Don't You Want Me" by Jody Watley that had Jody going "aaahh aaahh aaaaaaaahh..." at the beginning for about a minute or so. I didn't hear it much back then, but I haven't heard it in years and years and years.
Also, I remember "I Want A New Drug" having a version that was slightly longer and being played on AT40 once or twice. I remember hearing this and getting an image in my mind of Casey really getting into the song and dancing around in his chair.

Now that I think about it, it might have been "Some Kind Of Lover" that had this - which is a song I forgot about completely for years and just now remembered.

On the 9/6/1975 AT40: The 70's broadcast I thought I heard a different sounding version of the second singing of the chorus of Tavares' "It Only Takes a Minute".

On the 11/9/74 show, not only is a different version of "Stop and Smell the Roses Played", but it is not the flip side as happened many times when wrong songs were played. i.e. Rod Stewart "Angel" in 1972, Osmonds "Proud One", Marvin Gaye "Got to Give it Up" all featured the flip sides being played at least once. So I wonder where they got the acoustic sounding version of this Mac Davis song from. Maybe the promotional copy that they got had a different B side that the retail single.

Is it me or does Hall and Oates' "One on One" on the 2/19/1983 show sound different than usual?

Is it me or does Hall and Oates' "One on One" on the 2/19/1983 show sound different than usual? It's not you - it's almost surround-sound-like, expanded stereo/theater hall sounding, which I think is the album version. The single version is the one that usually gets played, which is the version I have also (from their "Rock N' Soul, Part 1" greatest hits CD). Good catch!

This may be more of an editing issue, but there was a weird version of "Somebody's Watching Me" played on 2/25/84. Some of the song itself was cut out, and it then jumped to an extended ending that was partly instrumental, with some of Rockwell's talk (including something about tea) that I've never heard on radio to my recollection.

this weeks 4/23 /77 show played not part one but part two of GOT TO GIVE IT UP by Marvin Gaye, which I am sure baffled many listeners back then
