This week's 1985 had a different version of Freeway of Love; you could hear guitar riffs throughout the song. I noticed the 'rock mix' as well. Since Clarence Clemons' sax is prominent throughout the song, I'll bet Arista released this version to try to get some album rock stations to add the song.

Or, apparently, dance clubs, if you can believe that. But don't take my word for it! Apparently the Rock Mix was available on the 12" single. ETA: Surprised nobody else has mentioned the live version of "Heaven" also being played!

(Just to clarify, my comment above refers to "Heaven", NOT "Freeway of Love".)

Actually I'm wondering if Premiere shortened it (sigh...).

I checked it out on YouTube and it's actually called "The Pink Cadillac Mix." However, I played it back and it sounded like it was "moving way to slow" No pun intended! I liked it on the show. I thought it was pretty cool!

Listening to iheartradio 1/19/74 AT 40 and I wonder why they played an alternate version of The Carpenter's 'Top Of The World' and why they didn't announce it as an alternate version? I guess it was the LP version, which sounded a little more country, than the version that was played on the radio and sold on the 45. I know that the average Top 10 song played on AT 40 about 12-14 times --but why not listeners know that this is an alternate version in case they want to purchase it. Of course, the alternate version might have gotten slipped in by the engineer that put the show together after Casey did his voice tracking. This might explain other 'different' versions featured in this thread.

On the 7/9/88 show, the version of the Contours' "Do You Love Me" was the original version, thank goodness. IIRC, the 7/16, 7/23, and 8/6/88 shows all used the version where they added that dopey 80's dance beat, which robbed the song of most of its appeal. It was nice to hear the original version this time around...

It's Jody Watley again! Actually I'm surprised this song hasn't been mentioned for a "different version" yet.
Talking about "Don't You Want Me" of course. The version played this weekend matches the one played the week before (11/21), albeit this weekend its intro is a bit longer.
But listen to a week such as 12/26, and on that week it's more mellow than heard here. Actually, it's the one played on this week that I was more used to hearing in these shows. The one played this weekend (and the week before) is the one that I'd call different.
So...which version is which? (I.E. which version is the single version, which is the album, or are we dealing with another remix altogether?)

They did that mashup of 99 Luftballons/Red Balloons when Nena was on the countdown. One of the countdowns it was on was the 3/10/84 show. It was actually the second straight song played which had different though not odd as the thread title suggests, versions played during the course of the songs chart run. The first was "Thriller". It had the Vincent Price rap at the end of the song. Charlie Van Dyke said in the outro, "That's Vincent Price doing his thing an another version of 'Thriller'". He said 'another version' because with this being the 5th week in the countdown for "Thriller", it was the first time that version had been played.

Of the countdown shows featuring Duran Duran's "Hungry Like The Wolf " from Classic AT40 1983 , was there a version played other than the single version (ie album cut) Just curious.

Remixes are great!
I've heard remixes of Aretha Franklin's Freeway of Love and Falco's Rock Me Amadeus. Both were great!

Is this the album version of "Pink Cadillac" that's playing right now on the 1988 show?

Have they ever played the version of Devil Inside with the line "it's hard to believe we need a place called Hell"? I've only heard the one heard in this week's countdown.
