I was going to go in the usual 10-week order based on when these years were featured last time, but this year they've had the tendency to feature a certain year a week sooner or later than it normally should, and then there's always that one year they wait for months on end before doing again.

8/3/85 has never been played by the VJs, so there's that. And we'll get at least one weekend where they don't overlap with Premiere. (I suspect we could have another duplicate weekend after that, but I'm speculating.)

I just remembered that we'll most likely be hearing the 10-minute version of "Do I Do" next week, along with the long version of "Early In The Morning", so I'm expecting next week to run just about as long as this week's 1988. So I was wrong about that. It looks like they played a shorter version of "Do I Do" for once. Yes, but they also played a too-long version of "Early In the Morning" which lasted for 7 1/2 minutes when the single only ran for four minutes. Mark Goodman was absent from this show, but, incidentally, KOSF whose on-air personalities include their former colleague Martha Quinn this week played Casey's show from the same year (but the following week) instead of Premiere's 1986 B (typically they choose the later B shows over early 1980s A's). Not too surprising when you think of it, since if you think of MTV's most played songs as the staple of a 1980s playlist there were plenty of those in the top 40 by mid-1982.

Next week it'll be all about 1981! Yet another copying of Premiere's show. I had a strong feeling this would happen when I realized 1981 was the likeliest option for Premiere this week, knowing that the VJs were also overdue to play it. At least we got a short break from the overlaps this weekend.

If we ignore the Premiere overlap factor, the choices so far in August have been good ones in terms of repeats. The week's 1985 chart is new (as was the previous 1985 chart) and next week's 1981 chart hasn't been touched in 12 years.

I'm presuming 8/19 again? Oh joy. No kidding. This will be the fourth time for that chart, while each of the next three charts would either be new or last played 10+ years ago. Like anyone outside of this forum cares....

Next week it'll be all about the other end of the decade, 1980!
Now that I think about it, wasn't this date done last year? Also, 1983 now hasn't been done the longest, having last been featured on the first weekend of June. The only reason why I'm glad we're not getting it this week is of course the potential Premiere copycat. I predict that and 1986 for the next two weeks.

And of course 1986 is also due soon from Premiere, so we will likely continue to see the same years featured close together for several more weeks ahead.

They're copying Premiere again, which sucks because 8/30/86 will be a new chart date for them so it's kind of a dougle-edged sword.

Plagiarism alert... While driving and listening to this past weekend's 1980 show, I heard Mark Goodman introducing "Into The Night" by Benny Mardones. He said something like this: Its success catapulted Mardones into the limelight, but he spiraled into substance abuse that resulted in his being dropped by his label Polydor Records. Though he eventually overcame his addiction, Mardones produced no other hits during his career.
When I got home, I looked up Benny Mardones in Wikipedia, and here is what was noted about "Into The Night": "Its success catapulted Mardones into the limelight, but he spiraled into substance abuse that resulted in his being dropped by his label Polydor Records. Though he eventually overcame his addiction, Mardones produced no other hits during his career."
I am not sure who writes the intros for Mark, Nina and Alan to read but you would think the writers would at least try to hide that they are lifting info word for word from Wikipedia?

The ironic thing is he actually did have another hit, Into The Night, in 1989. And trying to cash In, Benny Mardones rerecorded for another label. It was this version incorrectly played by Casey lite. You can't make this stuff up.
