At least it won't be a SXM repeat from last year, when they inexplicably played 7/30 and 8/13/88--and in between of course Premiere played Casey's first AT40 farewell show (though he didn't give any clear indication as such.)

This was the first week in some time that we got years from both SiriusXM and Premiere that have not been played in a while. So, naturally we're getting the same two years next weekend...

This means we have a 50/50 chance of them copying this week's Premiere. Hoping they don't do that year again two weeks after that like last year. July 23, 1988 is being counted down, so at least it isn't duplicating last week's Premiere show. Now, hopefully no more 1988 until at least September.

Next week it'll be all about 1982!

Figures that they'd return to 1982 the same weekend we get Casey from that year for the first time in nearly four months....

At least there's a good chance they won't be featuring the same chart date.

Hard to say if they will do back to back years, i.e., 1981 in two weeks, but that is close to the anniversary date of MTV. Way overdue for a 1981 show. What gives for the delay?

They always seem to be waiting to play certain years longer than others this year. I mean we had to wait almost four months for 1980. Also I don't see 1981 being next because of 1982 next week anyway.

No big surprise to me that 1982 is next. That means we'll now have a three-week stretch featuring the same three years from both Premiere and the VJs.
Of the possible chart options for next week, one was lasted played four years ago, while the other was last played eleven years ago. Can't imagine which way they'll go.
Meanwhile, I continue to wonder what the show's producers have against playing new 1988 charts. Anytime they finally give us one, they have to go and repeat it ASAP. It took them until 2020 to finally play a June 1988 chart, and since then we've had the same chart repeated in 2021 and nothing else. 7/23/88 finally got played in 2022 and now again this weekend. Ridiculous.

I just remembered that we'll most likely be hearing the 10-minute version of "Do I Do" next week, along with the long version of "Early In The Morning", so I'm expecting next week to run just about as long as this week's 1988.

So I was wrong about that. It looks like they played a shorter version of "Do I Do" for once. As much as I want the 1981 drought to end, I figured they wouldn't go with that one next week because of 1982 being this week. I'm hoping it's up for the week after. With there being five Fridays in August, I'm thinking this will be the order: 1985 (already announced), 1981, 1983, 1986, 1989.

1985 at least won't be back to back or coincide with a Premiere standalone from that year (though it could be the B to a 1980 A), as the following week (8/10/85) AT40 was guest hosted.
1989 the last Friday in August (and thus Labour Day weekend, which could conceivably have a special countdown) would place it 11 weeks after the last 1989 show. A slightly longer than average gap, but not as long as some years have seen this year. And at least that weekend's show wouldn't be 8/19/89 for the umptieth time.
