Was this week's show 4/18 or 4/25/87? Since 1981 and 1987 had the exact same calendar, obviously it would be the next one. And if it's 5/2/81, that would take another one off the board--and one we've also never heard from Premiere as that week's AT40 was guest hosted. They went with 4/25.

First of all, 16 in a row from late 2022--will our luck continue? Secondly, I hadn't realized that Genesis also had five Top 5 hits from an album, so thanks Nina for mentioning this.

First of all, 16 in a row from late 2022--will our luck continue? I'd just mention this year for streak-counting - mentioning late 2022 is confusing, and also unusable since December had 85 then 88 whereas March had 88 then 85. But in any case, it'd be to our benefit if it did in fact keep going after 1981, for at least the first two weeks of May - next up are 89 and 83, and while it doesn't matter which of the two 89 would fall on, it does matter for 83. (83 going first would land on 5/7, which has been done twice in the last five years - plus it would come the week after Premiere does 4/30.) After those two, they'll want to switch it up, as 88 would come next and that would land on 5/21, which has been done (if not recently). 80 would be the best bet to follow 83.

I do wish the folks that prepared the VJ Countdown subscribed to this thread, as you have great insight to their programming, and are really on top of your game. You are always accurate with your statistics, and the VJ Countdown would really benefit from your insightfulness. Now for the biggie--how do we get them to notice your suggestions?

I thought it interesting Casey closed the 4/25 show with... join me next week; even though the cue sheet said April 27th was Casey Kasem Day at the Hollywood Walk of Fame and as a result Dave Roberts was already scheduled to host the 5/2 countdown.

Casey has always said that in his show closes, exception being 8/6/1988 and 1/3/2004. He hasn't let on any other time that he was going to be out the following week. (Obvious ones being the two shows from 7/4/2009 when he hung it up permanently.)

Next week's Casey lite, won't repeat Premiere, 1989!

And here we go again with them padding the rest of the hour with songs from the countdown in alphabetical order. I think it's been several months since they started with this but I don't know why they do it.
Also 5/6/89 will be another new chart, the fifth in a row. Is this a record?

I'm just now listening to last weekend's show on demand, as I was traveling last week. What the heck was that awful alternate version of Wasn't That A Party?

Should be 5/14, with me catching a preview on Monday's Fox 50 1983, with less errors of course.
I'm guessing it's safe to assume that 1988 and 1985 will be the next years featured? I wonder if they'll do something for Memorial Day weekend.

Also 5/6/89 will be another new chart, the fifth in a row. Is this a record? And now 1983 (presumably 5/14) will make six. But to answer this (sort of) - we can't really classify this one in terms of what the "record" would be, as the entire first year since the switch to only Billboard charts would be "new" (unless one has pre-2012 records and could check those). The first actual repeat since the switch was 3/12/88 in 2013 - a year and a month since the switch. Even there, repeats would only be so frequent (that is to say, not TOO frequent) for some time after. A better way to look at it would be when the last time we've had six "new" ones in a row would be - at a minimum, it's been years since that last happened.

As I said a couple weeks ago, this would be the time to finally mix up the order pattern a bit - I'd go with 1980 next, and then resume pattern with 88 and 85. As for Memorial Day, it'd be better if we got a regular chart - as of now, there are no less than six great potential year candidates that could be done that weekend. (There were seven, until 83 was revealed for next week.)

Looking ahead, we seem to be on track to get a rare July 1989 show this year. We'll see.
This week is only the third time in twelve years that a May 1989 chart was featured. Coincidentally, the 1990's countdown, which was from the same calendar date, was only the third time that a chart from May 1995 was played.
