I am still not that fond of "A" and "B" shows. This is where the duplication lies. This is true of the 70's on XM where 1977 has already played four times in just over 3 months into 2023. Me neither. I never was, and I only ever listen to the A shows. Not only do I not have time to listen to two shows in one weekend, but I feel like the mere existence of B shows is a symptom of what's wrong with modern radio. Eh...but it's a lot more true on the "A" side than on the "B" side for the 80s as of late. In our 3-out-of-4 weeks duplicated last month, 2 of those matched "A" shows - and the 3-out-of-5 weeks of 1982 between the two programs also strictly involves "A" shows from Premiere's end. In addition to the two duplicate charts, we've also seen Premiere give us 1986 four weeks apart and they're about to do the same with 1982. As of next week, we will have seen four out of five weeks feature A shows from 1980-1982. Considering those are the only years that require B shows, that seems like a poor selection to me.

While I'm glad we're not getting another overlap between Premiere and the VJs next weekend, I'm a bit thrown that it's only because Premiere has been making some poor choices so far this month. As of next weekend, between the two shows we will have heard 1982 three times in five weeks. Speaking of poor programming choices, the first song to come on after the late night airing of the countdown last night was....."I Love Rock'n'Roll". Of all the songs of the 1980s they play the one that was literally just played at #1. (I realize that nobody was likely awake choosing songs at that hour, but couldn't someone at least have lined up a playlist beforehand to be played after the countdown, ensuring that doesn't happen?) And it appears that both next weekend’s Premiere A shows are from the same two years we got from SXM last weekend: 1976 and 1982.

The Sunday morning airing was immediately followed by "Oh Pretty Woman." It's almost like they do it on purpose, especially since (I don't think) the Van Halen song isn't part of the regular playlist.

Halfway through the second playing of each year and they're still going in the same order. It could go either way but I can see them going with 4/25 (or 4/24 according to them ). If that's the case, then maybe 5/2/81 will close out the month?

Is the 4/24 thing an indicator of them doing 4/25/87 next week? If that's the case, then maybe 5/2/81 will close out the month? Either that or possibly 4/29/89 (89 being next in line after 81), but either of those would be alright. Should they do 4/18/87 instead, then 89 becomes much more desirable to close out April (because 81 following 4/18 would be more likely to land on 4/25).

And once again, we're getting a Premiere show next week that uses the same year as this week's VJ countdown. January and February 2023 aside, that sort of overlap seems to happen far more than 50% of the time.
Also, for those who listen to the 90s countdown, we have a new member of the five-time club. The chart this week is from 4/12/97, which has aired every other year since 2015.

Imagine if the VJs were to count down an entire Hot 100 chart of 1982 rather than just the Top 40. Think of the unique adjectives Nina would use to describe those gigantic 40-plus-spot drops out of the Top 40 (like the 58-place drop "Centerfold" would take the week after the last 1982 panel). For example, what would a Nina talk-break between numbers 91 and 90 on the June 13, 1982 Hot 100 chart sound like (featuring the three songs that plunged over 65 notches, including "Still in Saigon")?
Tell me right now: What is a word for "worse than whopping"?

Some words come to mind for me: massive, gigantic, tremendous, and enormous. Jim, don't forget the biggest drop in 1982--the "Beatles Move Theme Medley" which dropped from 20 to 92-- 72 notches for a _________ drop for the Beatles that week. That would be on 6-5-82.

* = "Frozen" week
And if 87 does 4/25 tonight, that obviously comes off too. EDIT to account for that AND for next week's 1981.
1985 has made the most progress over the past two years, with six weeks knocked off the list. 1980, 83, and 86 have made the least - just two weeks apiece. (Though, 86 at least had had the second-fewest weeks remaining, a distinction now shared five ways. And having said that, 81 managed to knock three weeks off.)
On the whole, it does seem like the overall picture is somewhat closer to evened out now than it was two years ago, save for 81 still clearly having the fewest left and 88 still clearly having the most left. The mini-range inbetween those two isn't as wide as it was.

Was this week's show 4/18 or 4/25/87? Since 1981 and 1987 had the exact same calendar, obviously it would be the next one. And if it's 5/2/81, that would take another one off the board--and one we've also never heard from Premiere as that week's AT40 was guest hosted.
