Next week it's all about 1981. When's the last time May 1981 was featured? This means at least we won't have a recent repeat of the first two weeks of May 1988. Also I believe Premiere is offering this show as an option next week.

Also I believe Premiere is offering this show as an option next week. They haven't featured a May 1981 chart in five years, and this particular show will be new, continuing the recent string of good selections for this countdown. The only downside, as you noted, is that it will be the same chart as Premiere's AT40 (although this hasn't happened in seven months!). The best option for a new show for the following week would be 1982. They featured a 1981-1982 combo last time around, so it's not unheard of. 1983 and 1988 are also due, but holding off one more week for either would be ideal.

Does anyone think there's a possibility of there being a special show next week with it being Memorial Day weekend? I know there was one last year.

I haven't listened to this week's show yet, given that I'll hear the same chart from Casey this weekend. I'll probably listen to this later in the week on demand. However, I did want to see what's up for next week and I'm glad I checked.
In the past, I've accused the producers of the Big 40 of going out of their way to give us unnecessary repeat charts, but now it seems like they're putting in a deliberate effort to be better. The past few weeks have had erratic year selections, all of which gave us charts that are either new or not heard in many years. Next week's 1982 will be new as well, whereas the following week was played each of the past two years.
They seem to have a Memorial Day special every other year, so I wasn't expecting one this year.
Something else I'm quite happy about is that they've held off on 1988 to this point. The period from 5/28/88 through 7/2/88 has never been featured on this show, but it looks quite likely for this year.
The next question is, what comes next? 1983 and 1988 are still due and either would be new for the last week of May. However, the next possibility for a new 1983 chart would be the end of June, and I doubt they would hold off so long for such a popular year. Would they do a 1981-1982-1983 combo? These days, anything is possible.

Looks like that 1982 might not happen next week after all. I just saw on a channel display that they'll be replaying the Big 1000 starting Friday morning. This better not mean that 1982 will be bumped to the last week of May or be ignored until late July or something.
Yes I like how they're actually putting an effort in choosing charts that are new or rarely featured. Too bad the Big 1000 is disrupting that because they just have to do something for Memorial Day weekend.

It's a little unsettling not knowing how this will affect the countdown schedule. As you say, if 1982 gets bumped one week, it will be a triple repeat and the streak of new shows ends. On the other hand, it makes it even more likely we'll get a June 1988 show, and maybe a late August show to follow. Fingers crossed.

The Big 1000 starts right now, but they will occasionally take a break with a Rick Springfield guest DJ show.

Any word yet on this weekend? I kinda hope 1982 doesn't carry over.
I just heard that they will be doing 1982 this weekend. This'll be the third time in a row they are doing that particular date. I hope this doesn't mean they'll go back to doing dates that were used more recently because they had been doing a superb job up until this point.

6/4/88 is indeed a new chart, so after this weekend's misstep, they're back on track. 1983 shouldn't be that far behind.

Not only is next week a new chart, but it'll be the first one ever from that entire month. I'm hopeful that the next 1988 chart will be 8/13/88 or later, as that's another widely unused time frame.
1983 is definitely due, but the next chance for a new chart isn't until the end of the month, so the streak of new charts may be interrupted again. I don't see them waiting that long.
And hopefully, they don't wait an even 10 weeks to do 1982 again, as the 8/7 chart was played three of the last 4 years.
In other news, this week's 90s on 9 countdown is also a repeat from last year, which is aggravating since the last 1999 show was over four months ago and there were plenty of opportunities for new shows in the meantime.

Next week it'll be all about 1983. It was long overdue despite it being a repeat. I wish they would try harder for 1982 and 1983 to play new charts like they have for most other years.
Looking ahead we should be getting 1985 again pretty soon because it hasn't been done since the first week of April. Hopefully the week after the next so we won't have a three-peat of 6/29. Also 1980 shouldn't be much longer either, again avoiding a three-peat of 7/5.

How nice to finally hear a June 1988 chart on SiriusXM. This is the first time in nine years that the Big 40 has played the songs When We Kiss and Under The Milky Way, the latter of which was in the top 40 for five weeks. Meanwhile, they've played Live My Life (which hit the chart for one week) five times. You do the math.
I agree with Laura that 1983 is long overdue, and will be fun to hear despite being a repeat from 2017. Ideally, 1985 would follow.
I'm hopeful they hold off until July for the next 1989 show. July 1989 is as underused as June 1988, and it looks fairly likely that we'll get a chart from that month soon. I also wonder if July 4th weekend will see a regular show or more Big 1000 repeats.

So I was right. Next week it'll be all about 1985. Good chance that they will use the 6/22 chart, which hasn't been done since 2013.
