So I was right. Next week it'll be all about 1985. Good chance that they will use the 6/22 chart, which hasn't been done since 2013. And then ideally 1980 the next week, which would be a 2015 repeat but not as bad as repeating 7/5/80 for the fourth time. 7/12/80 would be completely new, but I'd rather we get 6/28 because I don't really like the alternative options for that week.

It sounded like Mark snorted after he intro'ed "All This Love". Guess he or whoever edits these things forgot to take it out.

With 1980 next week, it's a surefire bet 1989 will kick off July. Not only that, but it mirrors Premiere's A show that week.

Next week's Copycat Casey...1980!! Just when we get the same week from the real Casey. At least this won't be yet another replay of 7/5/80, though that at least was a week Casey never counted down (with a song at #40, Alice Cooper's "Clones", that was in its only week in the top 40 and so was never heard on AT40 at all.)

The only question now is, will they do a regular countdown over 4th of July weekend? We'll likely get a July 1989 show regardless, but which one?

I don't see them doing a special countdown so soon after replaying the Big 1000 on Memorial Day weekend.

Next week it'll be all about 1989, a rare July 1989 show to be exact!

Indeed, we've only had one July 1989 show and that was five years ago. And since that was a late July chart, this year we'll definitely be hearing something new.
After that, 1984 will be the show with the longest gap, and 7/7/84 would be new. (It would also be another Premiere duplicate, though on a different weekend this time.)
At least this show is giving us a good selection lately for the most part. The 90s countdown has given us June 1996 charts eight of the past nine years, with zero from July and only one from May.

With the July 4th weekend happening, maybe there will be an early airing of the countdown, likely Friday morning if that were to happen.
So I was right. It just started airing as of 9 AM central.

So next week's show mirrors one of this week's Premiere offerings, but at least it's another new one! So that means 1986 or 1987 is likely not that far behind. I'm thinking 1986 only because of the small gap between the last two 1987 shows.

Nice to hear a July 1989 show after hearing June shows seven out the past eight years. This means that the next 1989 show is likely to be in September, a month that hasn't been played since 2013.
As far as what's coming after 1984, I'm struggling to find a schedule I'd be happy with. 1987 is next due, and would be a new chart that week (though I'd really prefer they wait until August). 1986 is also due, but the next three 1986 charts have all been played within the past five years. After that is 1981, and the next five weeks are all decent options for that year.
We shall see. At least we didn't get another "special" this weekend like the 90s countdown did.

If anyone is interested, this is discussed by MKarns and others at sxmfans.proboards.com/ in the Pop area - the (sort of) replacement for the dearly departed xmfan.com

Next week it'll be all about 1981. So that means no 8/22 repeat at least, and I'm guessing they're waiting until the week after to do 1986 or 1987 so they wouldn't use a more recent chart.
And oddly enough, "Bette Davis Eyes" was still #1 that week, as was on 5/16, the last 1981 chart they featured.
