I did a little research and it seems John Cougar Mellencamp was the only artist to have a single in the Top 40 every year in the 80's. Any other suggestions? And no not Billy Joel, Pat Benatar, Elton John, Paul McCartney, etc... Phil Collins if we count Genesis, and Stevie Nicks if we count Fleetwood Mac, come to mind.

Yeah, Elton John did it. I read one of the charts wrong. And he was the first I looked at.

If anyone's interested, they re-uploaded the Big 1000 Countdown again.

If anyone's interested, they re-uploaded the Big 1000 Countdown again. I'll have to check that out; missed the first one. Thank you!

Well if there's any good news at least they're not playing 1989 next week which in all likely will feature an April 1989 show this year.

Yet another recent repeat, but look at it this way: 1. Finally no 3/25/89! and 2. It first aired last year, so at least it's not one of those dates that has been super worn out.

It was a rather unfortunate coincidence to feature a countdown with a Kenny Rogers song with his passing.

Well if there's any good news at least they're not playing 1989 next week which in all likely will feature an April 1989 show this year. This is great news, as they haven't played an April 1989 chart in seven years. So, even if they end up repeating a chart it won't be as bad as when they repeat from 1-2 years ago. Let's just hope this doesn't end up being another case where they randomly avoid a certain year for months, as they did just with 1982. You'd be hard pressed to find an early 80s chart Gambler wasn't on. Maybe because he vanished from the pop scene so quickly after 1984, he doesn't get the recognition he deserves for how big he really was earlier in the decade. Even on 80s on 8, outside the countdowns, I think I have heard him twice or maybe 3 times. This is true for a lot of the "soft rock" artists that were big during that era (Neil Diamond, Barbra Streisand, Air Supply, etc.) Yes, they were big in the 1980s, but since their sound isn't the "typical" 1980s sound, they are largely ignored.

Has 4/6 been featured before? I know the 13th and 20th have off the top of my head. Anyway, I'm glad they hadn't waited a couple of weeks for this particular year like last year. Also I think we may get 1989 for Easter weekend.

Also I think we may get 1989 for Easter weekend. 4/6/85 will indeed be a new chart for this series, the first "new" chart in seven weeks. I hope you're right about 1989, or at the very least that it shows up in the next few weeks. Now for my "wishful thinking" segment of the week... I notice that this week's 1987 chart aired last year. And if they wait the standard 10 weeks to feature 1987 again, that too will be a repeat from last year. But then... Last year, they waited an unusual 13 weeks after the June 1987 chart. Maybe -- just maybe -- they'll stay on track this year and we'll finally get a mid-summer 1987 show. Or not -- with SiriusXM, it could go any which way...

A ten week gap between 1987 shows would mean that it gets played in early June, mid-August, and late October. At least then we wouldn't get yet another replay of Sept. 12, 1987 (usually followed by Sept. 19, 1981).

Interesting. I thought for sure it would be 1989. Maybe next week. At least 4/12/80 will either be new or hasn't been featured in a while. Plus we get two Kennys: Rogers, who is sadly no longer with us, and Loggins with a song we rarely ever hear from him.
Another funny thing I noticed is that the last time 1980 was featured, "Heartbreaker" was #40. Well it's also #40 in the 4/12 chart too, this time on the way down.

1980 will be new, which will make two weeks in a row of charts we haven't heard before. Other potential good news is that 1984 is due soon and we've never had a single April 1984 show in eight years. I only hope they pull out 1989 in the next five weeks, otherwise they've wasted a great opportunity.

Alan introduces Save a Prayer by Duran Duran as, "their biggest song to date, peaking at #2, kept out of the top spot by Eye of the Tiger".
Strange that song hit #1 in 82, 6 months before Duran Duran's first US top 40 single. Save a Prayer topped at 16.
