Now KMEL-HD2 has been off the air for several hours... this is getting weirder and weirder. And it's still off the air. WTF happened at KMEL?

AT40 had the last Top 100 in 2009. Then we were sorta left out in the wind for a few years, although Z-100 NYC did do a top 100 year end show (2010-2012), it wasnt until 2013 when the I-heart radio countdown began an started w/ a Year end Top 100. But a las even that only continued thru 2017. Even Still they are the only chart that at least does a Top 50 now (since 2018). I believe Z-100 NYC is still spinning that show continously thru the holidays?!?! If not, pretty sure several stations will run it on New Years day. My station WIHT ran it on X-mas day (twice) an i expect them to run it again on New Years

This weekend's year-end show is complete, if anyone wants to catch it. All segments are there. There was a little over an hour last night with "dead air", but unlike last week's show, all segments are present. Ryan did different voice tracks, as well as different extras. Shame that we couldn't get H2S2 from last week's show before the changeover Friday.

For the first time in the history of ever, the iHeart online AT40 feed (which I don't think is based off KMEL anymore) aired the entire first-week year-end show including the optional extras, without missing a segment. A pleasant surprise.

Another coincidental occurrence: In last week's regular show, in which Latto guest-hosted, one of the intros said that her favorite number was 7, and that maybe she'll grow to love the other 39 numbers just as much (or something along those lines). Well, guess where her hit "Big Energy" landed on the year-end?
Yep...#7.

Wouldnt you know it, the I-heart radio countdown this year was shortened yet again, down to a Top 40 now. No more Top 50.

Looks like I'm not missing much. I already listen to AT40, Country Top 40 with Fitz, Country Top 30 with Bobby Bones, Weekend 22 and Weekly Top 20 Countdown (Christian countdown shows), and any shows Joe or MERC post.

That's too bad! Maybe 2022 wasn't a great year for pop music!

IHR's year-end shows used to be a Top 100, which it was when I last heard it in 2017. Not sure when they switched to a top 50, but now it's even less, a top 40. 🤷♂️

I'll have to take everyone's word that IHR only counted down a top 40 for 2022, because their website is still playing the previous week's top 20!

2017 was the last Top 100. 2018 it switched to a Top 50, an now a Top 40, last year it was a Top 50. Best place to listen to the countdown WOULD of been to stream Z-100 New york. They use to repeat the show over an over thru the holidays. They probably dont do that now but Im sure its played several times on Xmas an new years day.
WIHT in Washington DC aired it on Xmas day an New years day, twice. Strangely enough, they did NOT air At40 Xmas morning an instead played Xmas music, so I only caught the 2nd airing of AT40's year-ender, although I did hear a piece of the 1st one off 98.3 Kiss fm.

That's too bad! Maybe 2022 wasn't a great year for pop music! I don't think that's it. Radio stations, especially Top 40 stations, continue to grow more and more hesitant to deviate from the usual playlist, even for a few hours. They claim it badly hurts ratings. I've never understood how it was a perfectly fine tradition for decades but now it's deadly.

There's a lot more genres and sub-genres out there now that didn't exist back in the day. Couple that up with slower-moving charts, and that's why we don't see top 100s (or maybe even top 50s) on year-end countdowns anymore. The Country Top 40 still does a top 50, but every other countdown show I've come across does a top 40 or less for the year.
