Thanks, jdelach and dougray. I'm surprised "Can I Get A Witness" only lasted 1 week since it was the follow-up to a Top 10 hit AND a remake of a Top 25 hit.
One of my favorites, wondered when his first week on was (going to see him for the third time next month).
Also known as the Theme to "The Exorcist" (and one of the coolest cell phone ring tones I've ever heard).

The flip side, so to speak, of the top 40 hits that were never played on AT40 was ZZ Top's "La Grange", which was played as #33 on the staff-generated 6/29/74 chart, but never actually reached the top 40 on the Billboard pop chart.

Wasn't there a regular "AT40" show in addition to the 7/6/74 special?

According to Rob Durkee, the 6/29/74 countdown is a much sought after collector's item.

Meredith Brooks caused quite a stir when the offensive word used by Elton John appeared in the title of her lone top 40 smash from 1997.

No. To accomodate Casey's Hawaii Five-O shooting schedule, the 6/29 show was recorded a week earlier (AT40 was presumably unable to secure a substitute host for that week) and the Billboard chart was guessed by the staff. The Top Acts of the '70s show was recorded earlier than that (when that show aired on Premiere a few weeks ago, Casey actually mentioned affiliates; on the 6/22 show AT40 began actually airing station IDs - a practice that would eventually be short-lived) with no regular countdown show. Humble Harve subbed for Casey on 7/13 and Casey was back for the 7/20 show.

Did Casey actually say the song's title when it was charting or did he refuse to even mention it (a la "I Want Your Sex")?

I didn't listen to "Casey's Top 40" in 1997-However,he might've been told not to say the "B" word on the air.
