I was listening to the "Beatle Years" special last night on WPNC & didn't hear Larry Morgan's usual intro:"And now Premiere Networks proudly presents Casey Kasem's "American Top 40-The 70's"-Is there a reason for that? It is indeed one of the specials that Premiere has not yet done - and ultimately may not do at all? One other note of interest. In the specials that haven't been "officially" offered by Premier, there are no national commericals. KOKZ aired the movies special from 1978 with no commercials from Premier.

Premier optional extras of the 4/6/74 Special: I Can See For Miles - The Who Whole Lotta Love - Led Zeppelin Over And Over - Dave Clark Five Premier optional extras of the 4/7/73 Special: Killing Me Softly With His Song - Roberta Flack Suspicious Minds - Elvis Presley Hello I Love You - The Doors WPNC also played the 9/30/72 special, but I only heard bits of it and don’t know if there were any optional extras. Premiere has never officially offered it. Were there optional extras for the 1978 soundtrack songs special, that Premiere authorized for some stations but didn’t make an official option? I only heard bits of the 9/30/72 Special too and I’m not sure whether WPNC played any optional extras. But Larry Morgan introduced the show at the beginning and also gave the end credits. So I guess there were optional extras for the show.

So I guess there were optional extras for the show. Indeed there were - all #1s from 1971-72 from acts who fell short of ranking in the countdown (though Larry didn't refer to any of them as having just missed): Paul & Linda McCartney - Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey Nilsson - Without You James Taylor - You've Got a Friend I wonder if Premiere had intended to specifically offer it at some point, only to end up changing their minds later? Either that or they only recently produced it their way, and otherwise it is now more-or-less available as part of a pool of available specials for stations to ask for, should any want to. That doesn't explain other specials airing as-is with no Premiere touches, but they obviously intended something for this one to have added them to it here.

Of the shows WPNC played over the last week, I count seven that have never been official Premiere A's, B's, and/or bonuses: Top Acts of 1967-72 (originally aired 9/30/72) Top Hits of 1968-73 (4/7/73) Disappearing Acts (7/7/73) Top British Hits (4/6/74) Top Acts of the 50s (10/4/75) Top Hits of the Beatle Years (10/2/76) AT40 Goes to the Movies (4/1/78) Of these, all but the October 1976 show had a set of optional extras and Larry Morgan voiceovers. And Disappearing Acts has been aired before by WPNC and I think some others (WTOJ?), and a few others aired the 1978 soundtrack-themed countdown as well. And there's the 1976 Bicentennial show of July 4 #1's from 1937 to 1976 which WPNC and WTOJ have played before, but not this year, but again has never been an officially sanctioned Premiere offering but had the full Morgan/optional extra treatment (plus in 2016 Ken Martin produced a sequel for WTOJ updating it.)

Larry introduced the 10/4/75 Special as “And now, the Premiere Radio Network….” instead of “And now, the Premiere Network…”. It sounds like it was offered many years ago as the change was made more than ten years ago.
