Here is a trivial note for you, not a question. I could present this as a question but would rather just divulge the information. I have read many Premiere cue sheets and often note the Sherman Oaks, Calif. address. Today for the first time, I actually heard Casey mention Sherman Oaks, Calif. and it had nothing to do with Premiere networks. In the 2002 show for today's date, he said that Leann Rhimes was a resident of Sherman Oaks.

Hmmm...somebody might update this list en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherman_Oaks,_Los_Angeles#Notable_people although I think it's mostly star-sighting. (LeAnne Rimes herself is originally from the South.)

The five songs below peaked at #2 on the Billboard chart:
All I Need-Jack Wagner Mama's Pearl-Jackson 5 Mercedes Boy-Pebbles More Than I can Say-Leo Sayer Queen of Hearts-Juice Newton
As far as I can tell, these songs have something uniquely in common with only one other Top 2 single between 1970 & 1989.
What is this song?

What is this song? The only other record I can think of falls outside the time period you give: "Don't Wanna Fall In Love" - Jane Child

blackbowl68, you are right that "Don't Wanna Fall In Love" would fall in to this category. There is one other Top 2 single between 1970 & 1989 that fits this category.

Then I'm gonna go out on a limb & say the other song is: "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees.

I would say that limb is safe. But 2 other such songs are "Which Way You Goin' Billy" and "Use Me".

Then I'm gonna go out on a limb & say the other song is: "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees. That is a good answer but it is another song. I would say that limb is safe. But 2 other such songs are "Which Way You Goin' Billy" and "Use Me". Both good guesses. Actually, "Lean On Me" would also be a good guess.

Except for "Lean on Me", all the songs mentioned so far have moved from 6 to 2 and did not hit #1 after that move. And those are the only such songs from 1970-1990 to do that.

The move from 6 to 2 is coincidental. A move from 8 to 2 or 9 to 1 would have the same effect in this case.

In a strange way you are closing in on the right answer. If that's the case, then we're looking for a chart single from before March 1981.

^Because that is the last time in the 70s and 80s that a song moved from 6 or lower to #1. (but not #2, that happened in 1988)

Oh dang it! I should've known better. It's "Bad Blood" by Neil Sedaka.
