Very close age wise with Davis & Berry, but slightly older. I am not looking at groups like the Beach Boys, Starship or USA For Africa, just releases by solo artists. Aretha Franklin with "I Knew You Were Waiting For Me" (does a duet with George Michael count)? If duets count, then Bill Medley was older when "The Time OF My Life" hit #1.

You're correct on that: Medley was a couple of months past his 47th birthday, while Aretha had just turned 45 when their respective duets hit #1 in 1987.

How 'bout a big ten-four for C W McCall? Rubber duck signing out... You are correct. I didn't even bother looking up his DOB when I was going down the #1 singles list in the back of Whitburn because I remembered seeing photos of him at the time of "Convoy" and he didn't look like he was 47 and change!

I believe "Pops" Staples was the oldest artist to top the Hot 100 during the period. He was a day shy of 61 when "Let's Do It Again" reached #1 in 1975.
Btw, C W McCall was an advertising executive as was another artist that was on the chart at the same time, Cledus Maggard. Two artists using stage names with #1 country songs that were novelty records relating to cb radio.

Please advise of the link between the following. Casey Kasem, Weird Al Yankovic, Rocky, French singer Sylvie Vartan, and the next-to-last song on the Partridge Family album Up To Date. I believe it's Tony Scotti... - He and his brother Ben's company produced Casey Kasem's America's Top 10. - Weird Al's first 8 albums were released on the Scotti Brothers label. - They also were the label for Survivor and the #1 single "Eye Of The Tiger" featured in Rocky III. - He and his wife Sylvie Vartan are celebrating their 30th anniversary this year. - The next to last song on the Partridge Family's album "Up To Date" is "She'd Rather Have The Rain" which was the first Hot 100 single for Tony Scotti and his band Heaven Bound.

Perfect. ("She'd Rather Have The Rain" is gender-flipped to ""He'd Rather Have The Rain" on the Heaven Bound song, which is a guilty pleasure on my ITunes. And which, when I sort by artist, appears right before a *very* guilty pleasure, "Meaningless Songs (In Very High Voices)" by the HeeBeeGeeBees, which hit #2 in Australia in 1980.)
