I dont think you can buy a boombox that has it, but you can buy a boombox XM set up. You get the delphi skyfi, and then you buy the boombox part seperate. It cost around $150-200 total. The good thing about this system is the delphi skyfi tuner is transferrable. Say if you buy the car kit and install it, you can take the tuner with you wherever you go.

I hope a deal as been worked out. As of November 15th, Direct TV is switching to XM from Music Choice. As a Direct TV subscriber, I would love to hear old AT40's from the 70's and 80's.

the whole service is going to be XM?! I just thought it would be in addition to what they already had (ie Dish Network w/Sirius) so Music Choice is out and XM is in...hmm...I'll have XM radio on the boombox, XM on the internet, and XM on my TV. Moving to Dothan, I have a feeling I will be using internet radio and XM even more.

I have already posted this on the xm411.com board, not that anyone there or probably here cares. If AT40 doesnt return to XM or there is no news on when it is coming back soon, I will be ending my sub. I started it back up expecting it to be on soon after and thus far, it is not. I am sick of waiting, and I feel like I am being taken on a wild ride by XM.

Paul,
If I could be guaranteed old AT40 shows would air consistently for a given amount of time I would subscribe. But XM has never been able to prove to me that would happen, so I have yet to even consider subscribing.

Here would be the issue with you though if you have never considered it. You dont have the equipment and it isnt like Directv where they will give you everything and seemingly do everything except marry you to get you into their service. Someone like you has to really want it bad enough to go spend $200 or so on the equipment.
At least I already had the equipment and other than feeling like I got bilked out of $12.95 for a couple of months, it is no big loss.

All Access.com has reported that Bruce Kelly, PD of 80s on 8(and the guy giving us the info that AT40 was coming soon) has resigned due to the failing health of his father(I believe). If he reads this board which I doubt, I along with I am sure all of you posters send our thoughts and prayers to him in this time.
On a side note, I would say the odds AT40 makes it to the airwaves just decreased significantly.

I love this carrying on the conversation myself....no sooner do I post the last message above then THIS comes over XM411.com:
Casey Kasem AT 40 Shows Coming Soon! Phlash from XM 60s has told me XM Plans to air Casey Kasems American Top 40 shows soon on the 70s & 80s channels. My guess is it will be on near the Christmas New Years holidays if not sooner.
so maybe all hope isn't dead yet.

My guess is it will be on near the Christmas New Years holidays if not sooner. Goodness, I hope so! After the whole promise of having them on by Labor Day went unfulfilled, I'm admittedly skeptical. But, keep in mind that when AT40 had its last foray (albeit brief) on XM, it began over the Christmas holiday.

Like Paul, I am an XM subscriber and have just posted a message on Xm411 expressing my views. I also hope that they will broadcast AT40 on XM 7 and XM8, however I will believe what is being said when they actually do it and this time I hope that they have made preparations to prevent another quick removal of the show as was done in Feb 2003.
If this turns out to be an empty promise, then I would encourage those on this board who use XM to constantly email management there and let them know how we feel. And if/when XM actually does broadcast AT40, we need to send the channels and management emails letting them know how much we like the show being there. Silence on this will get us nowhere. As subscribers we have the right to let our views be heard and put any pressure that can be done legally.
There are those on XM who will fuss about AT40 as they did in February 2003 and we need to be prepared to show our support for XM having AT40 to counter them.
John

Although I am not a subscriber, I think part of the problem in 2002-2003 is the volume of AT40 shows that were played. Many people who were 'anti-AT40' said they wouldn't mind one or two airings of the show a week, but the daily airings were getting old. A suggestion to XM would to in fact have the shows air at max 2 days a week, not only to keep anti-AT40 people happy, but to keep the shows fresh and new for a longer period of time.

That's a good point Brett and you're totally right. I think the two week overload of Casey Kasemas was a bad start and they kept broadcasting the show every day. Maybe they should do like radio stations did in the 1970s and 1980s and broadcast the show once per week, preferably on Saturday and Sunday(70s could do an AT40 one day and 80s on the other)
Before Bruce Kelly resigned, he promised there would be no Casey Kasemas this time around and if those succeeding him have a grain of sense, they won't repeat that dumb mistake. Kurt who will be running both stations now worked with Bruce on getting the shows ready and probably is aware of this.
