Going back 50 years for two shows, here are this week’s 70s album tracks for… November 17, 1973Hour #1: The Who’s Quadrophenia (“Love Reign O’er Me”) Hour #2: Jim Croce’s Life And Times (“It Doesn’t Have To Be That Way”) Hour #3: Elton John’s Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (“Your Sister Can’t Twist [But She Can Rock ‘N’ Roll]” Croce's song, one of my favorites of his, is a Christmas song. In the same 'downbeat' way that "The Apartment" is a Christmas movie. And it charted as a single, debuting on Christmas week of '73 and peaking at #64 three weeks later.

Great song. As is "Bitterblue". It was in regular rotation on WLS-AM even though it was never released as a single. Three more from 11/27/71: Hour #1: Carpenters - Carpenters Bacharach/David MedleyHour #2: Three Dog Night - Harmony JamHour #3: Carole King - Tapestry Beautiful

Lees talk, no jingles, more featured album selections, and an FM-stereo signal eventually created 'radio wars' from coast to coast.

Those are three LPs that got a lot of time on my turntable (a brand-new BSR unit from FedMart) as the final month of '76 got underway. "The Pretender" in particular.

The Top 10 included greatest hits packages from Chicago & America. Both Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel were in the Top 10 with their respective solo albums. Since I owned both at the time, it also meant that I had two copies of "My Little Town" due to the inclusion of the song by Simon & Garfunkel on both albums. Three more from 12/6/1975: Hour #1: Eagles - One Of These Nights After The Thrill Is GoneHour #2: Jefferson Starship - Red Octopus Fast Buck FreddieHour #3: Paul Simon - Still Crazy After All These Years Have A Good TimeAs a bonus, I'd like to include a track from an album that yielded no hits but was one of my favorites. Captured Angel - Dan Fogelberg Man In The Mirror/Below the Surface

OMG, YES!! Couldn't understand why no track from Dan's third album reached the Hot 100, let alone the top 40, as "Part Of the Plan" from his previous LP "Souvenirs" had. "The Last Nail" is one of THE great post-breakup songs. Played that one a LOT after the multiple times my heart was getting stepped on back then.
