In a world of individual playlists, I’ve occasionally used album tracks as filler material (i.e. optional extras) while listening to Premiere’s weekly AT40 shows, replacing the ‘official’ program extras with three album cuts from the week’s Top 10 LPs.
There may be numerous reasons why Premiere has not used this completely hypothetical scenario. One of the most obvious, LP tracks – in their entirety – often exceed the 3-4 minutes allotted each hour for Premiere’s extras.
With that, here are this week’s 70s album tracks…
September 26, 1970 Hour #1: Joe Cocker’s Mad Dogs & Englishmen (Feelin’ Alright) Hour #2: Woodstock soundtrack (Star Spangled Banner – Jimi Hendrix)* Hour #3: Chicago II (Fancy Colours) *The death of Jimi Hendrix was announced in Billboard’s 9/26/70 issue
September 23, 1978 Hour #1: The Rolling Stones’ Some Girls (title track) Hour #2: Boston’s Don’t Look Back (Feelin’ Satisfied) Hour #3: The Commodores’ Natural High (Flying High)
“…and there's a cut from this week’s number seven album. And now back to the countdown…”

Pete, As AOR became more popular as a radio format, it is a shame that AT40 eliminated that feature from their shows. Perhaps feedback came from stations that they didn't want these 'obscure' songs being played. Another reason , of course, when the hits became longer it reduced the need for more 'filler' material.
Eventually, Humble Harve, came up with the National Album Countdown and those LP tracks were featured on that show, although NAC probably was never heard on as many stations as AT40.

KBBC in Phoenix aired Humble Harve’s National Album Countdown (Sundays, 9pm-12mid) when the show debuted in March 1976. And Chicago’s WMET carried it Sundays from 7-10pm.
A great program, with artist interviews and local retail reports, it showcased the best-selling LPs from the late 70s to early 80s. Unfortunately, copies of NAC aren’t easy to find.

I first heard George Jones' version of Bartender's Blues… it was years later that I learned it was written by Taylor, that Taylor sang backing vocals on Jone's version… and Taylor had released his own version of it. :-) Always liked it.

Pete: I'd like to suggest 3 more from 10/1/77 Hour 2: Alan Parsons Project - I Robot BreakdownMy pick would have been the instrumental "I Robot" that got FM AOR airplay and leads into their hit single "I Wouldn't Want to Be Like You".
