From the R&R HoF website... "Eight out of 14 of the Nominees are on the ballot for the first time, including Sheryl Crow, Missy Elliott, Joy Division/New Order, Cyndi Lauper, George Michael, Willie Nelson, The White Stripes, and Warren Zevon. This is the first year of eligibility for Missy Elliott and The White Stripes." My take on the nominees... * Kate Bush: Much as I like her music, she should be in the Hall of Very Good. * Missy Elliott: Not on the first ballot but I could see her getting in later on. * Iron Maiden: I would say no... but Judas Priest got in last year. Don't underestimate the fan vote with album rock artists. * Sheryl Crow: As a Top 40 artist, she deserves to get in. * Willie Nelson: I am surprised he was never nominated before! Yes but not on the first ballot. * Cyndi Lauper: Yes but not on the first ballot (if her career lasted longer, then I would say yes). * The Spinners: Yes, please vote for them! * Soundgarden: If this was a true Rock & Roll museum, yes but it seems like the Hall wants to branch out. Yes for me but they may not get in this year. * Warren Zevon: I would say no this time around. Not much Top 40 influence but he has been a rock influence. Hopefully in another year. * George Michael: He has the most Top 40 hits and #1 songs of anyone nominated... but his lifestyle choices may hinder his vote. I say yes. * The White Stripes: Yes! I love this group. Huge influence on rock in the early 2000s. * A Tribe Called Quest: Hall of the Very Good for them but not HoF. * Joy Division/New Order: As crazy as this sounds, I would say yes to New Order but not to Joy Division. Not a first ballot entry but in a future year, yes. * Rage Against The Machine: Yes, big influence on rock back in the day. Zack de la Rocha's dreads belong in the Hair Hall of Fame . Eight artists were voted in last year. It will be interesting to see who makes it. Rachel Steele on SiriusXM's Classic Rewind wondered the other day if Foreigner, Styx or REO Speedwagon would get nominated. It seems strange that none of them were nominated.

Even though their hit making days are long gone,The Spinners deserve to get in the Hall Of Fame-By the way, they're presently out on tour with the Average White Band & Kool & The Gang-They're scheduled to appear in Connecticut on May 13th at the Toyota Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford.

Here are vote tallies as of Sunday afternoon, February 5...
* George Michael is in 1st place (87,000+ votes), less than 3,000 votes ahead of Cyndi Lauper. * Soundgarden is in 3rd place, less than 1,000 votes ahead of Willie Nelson. * Iron Maiden (with no Hot 100 hits but ten Top 20 albums) is in 5th place. * 6th - 10th place: Warren Zevon, Rage Against The Machine, Joy Division/New Order, Sheryl Crow, Kate Bush * 11th - 14th place: The Spinners, The White Stripes, Missy Elliott, A Tribe Called Quest
Since Dolly Parton was inducted last year... If Willie Nelson makes the cut this year, I wonder if one or two crossover country artists will be nominated by the R&R HoF annually.

Even though he passed away in 2020,Kenny Rogers could be inducted posthumously-He had several hits that crossed over from country to pop.

The Go-Go's were inducted in 2021-I think The Bangles deserve to go into the Hall as well.

As of 8pm this evening (EST), here's a Rock Hall Vote update: * Cyndi Lauper is in 1st place (181,000+ votes) over George Michael (178,000+ votes). * Warren Zevon is comfortably in 3rd place (153,000+ votes) after being in 6th place last week. * Soundgarden is in 4th place (just under 130,000 votes). * Willie Nelson (124,900 votes) is eeking out 5th place over Iron Maiden (124,700 votes). * 7th - 10th place: Joy Division/New Order (up 1), Kate Bush (up 2), Rage Against The Machine (down 2), Sheryl Crow (down 1) * 11th - 14th place: The Spinners, The White Stripes, Missy Elliott, A Tribe Called Quest (no changes) Nice move by Warren Zevon this past week. SiriusXM recently played one of his tunes on Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Radio, and I can't get this tune out of my head. Featuring Linda Ronstadt and Jennifer Warnes on background vocals, here is "Excitable Boy". Please note: It would probably not be a good idea to play this song on the radio during a first date with someone :

I wonder if Kate Bush would have been nominated if her old hit hadn't been resurrected last year.

Here are the latest vote tallies for the Class of 2023 Rock Hall nominees... not much change from last week: * Cyndi Lauper still has her 3,000 vote lead over George Michael for 1st place. * Warren Zevon is 25,000 votes behind George Michael in 3rd place but is almost 50,000 votes ahead of Soundgarden who is in 4th place. * Iron Maiden just overtook Willie Nelson for 5th place and now leads Willie by 6,000 votes. * Joy Division/New Order and Kate Bush remain in 7th and 8th place, respectively. * Sheryl Crow just moved into 9th place by 300 votes over Rage Against The Machine. RATM was in 7th place two weeks ago. * No changes in the Bottom 4 with The Spinners in 11th place, The White Stripes in 12th, Missy Elliott in 13th and A Tribe Called Quest in last place. Sometimes on "American Idol" there's a week where the Bottom 3 are all Black while the Top 4 - 7 are all White or other races, and everyone starts the "America is racist" line for fan voting. So far, the Top 10 Rock Hall nominee vote getters are White while three of the Bottom 4 are Black. I am somewhat surprised no one is claiming America is racist with this year's Hall of Fame voting . If The Spinners don't get in this time, that's four times they were nominated and (possibly) not voted in. They were previously nominated in 2012, 2015 and 2016. What other artists have been nominated three or more times without being named to the Rock Hall?

As of 6pm EST on February 27, there is only one change in the vote order from last week... but the change is at the top!
* George Michael now leads Cyndi Lauper by just under 3,000 votes for the lead (319,000 to 316,000 votes). * Warren Zevon is in 3rd. * Soundgarden leads Iron Maiden by just 300 votes for 4th place. * 6th - 10th place: Willie Nelson, Joy Division/New Order, Kate Bush, Sheryl Crow and Rage Against The Machine stay in their order from last week. * 11th - 14th place: The Spinners, The White Stripes, Missy Elliott and A Tribe Called Quest hold at their respective positions from last week although The Spinners are gaining grown on Rage for 10th place. A Tribe Called Quest has 20% of the vote that George Michael and Cyndi Lauper have.
