As expected, WNIC-100.3 FM here in Detroit has officially started playing Christmas music earlier today. Here are my two cents on this: Why in the world would you start playing Christmas music on November 1? I mean, Halloween was just, like yesterday. Here we are on November 1, and a non-Christmas radio station is playing Christmas music. Usually at this time of year, I am not even close to thinking about Christmas, in fact, I am suffering from Halloween withdrawl right about now. I am still trying to get over Halloween, and now we are hearing Christmas music. If a radio station is playing Christmas music 24 hours, 7 days, everyday for the next 55 days isn't a crazy idea, I don't know what is. If you want to play Christmas music 24/7, that's fine, but wait until December 1 to do it, not November 1.

Because WNIC only cares about their bottom line. Sad to say.

No more American Top 10 for Detroit. My AT10 affiliate is still crankin' out the "Lite Rock Favorites of Yesterday and Today" and their PD claims they wont be flipping to all-Christmas until the day after Thanksgiving. But i'm still holding my breath that i'll get to hear AT10 & US Music Survey one more time before '06.

why wouldnt these stations air AT10 after Thanksgiving? The show will probably flip to an all Christmas music format after then anyway.

Well, I was talking about the regular Top 10 AC countdown version of AT10. While the Christmas shows are very well done, I do miss the regular shows when they are gone. Plus -- some affiliates (WNIC being one of them I believe) still do not air the Christmas shows even when they are released.
Also - I am assuming Casey is producing Christmas shows this year. There hasn't been any mention yet, and it has been said here that by this time last year the Christmas show promos were in full swing.

From what I hear, Casey's AT10 Christmas shows will start next weekend. Yes, November 12-13.

It's all about the ratings. From what I hear, the all-Christmas format brings in huge ratings. So what if the general public isn't ready to hear it? It doesn't matter one bit to those in charge.

Will there be a regular version of the AT10 show until at least Thanksgiving, or will the Christmas show be the only option?

I think there is 1 produced version of the show that CK does every week. The years past (before last year) when they would run the "Christmastime" shows it was the old Top 30 Christmas Songs of All Time and they ran them like a month straight while Casey was still doing a new current countdown for the AC chart that none of the 24/7 Christmas stations were airing. At least that was my understanding.
Last year CK did different holiday shows after Thanksgiving but again, my understanding is that was the ONLY AC based show done, there was no regular weekly countdown, so if the holiday shows are starting in a couple of weeks, that will probably be the only show done. Dont worry, the top 3 AC songs will probably remain in place until after the new year so on that end you wont miss anything. ;D
However, I would rather hear them and the other stuff then Christmas music too.

I wouldn't mind Christmas being the spotlight until at least the weekend of Nov. 26/27 (the weekend after Thanksgiving). Totally Christmas AT10 on Nov. 12 is just crazy. But I understand that is what needs to be done to get the shows to air. I can't imagine Casey is super excited to be tracking Christmas shows in November.

Will there be a regular version of the AT10 show until at least Thanksgiving, or will the Christmas show be the only option? Not to my knowledge. This is what was done last year, though the Christmas shows started a week later (November 20).

I wish they could at least theme the shows and count them down that way. Like 1 week the Top 30 Christmas Carols of All Time, Top 30 Classics of All time, Top 30 Christmas Songs for children, and the usual Top 60 Christmas Songs of All Time or something like that rather than just Casey playing the role of local DJ spinning Christmas tracks.

Very true, though I doubt this will happen.
