>Enjoyed your latest & greatest Joe, though there are a few cringe-worthy songs among the Top 40.<
Please don’t! It wasn’t Joe’s fault! This countdown means so much to me.

Besides the song Run, Joey, Run during the summer/fall of 1975, I recall there was a Saturday morning TV show called Run, Joe, Run that ran from the fall of 1974-through the summer of 1975. It was about a German Shepherd named Joe that gave Lassie a run for her money in rescuing people. I wonder if the songwriter was influenced by the TV show to come up with that title?!

Listened to the rewind countdown today. Great show, great job and a great set of songs. Speaking of the TV show, I remember it well.

Wow I don’t remember that show at all. I’m sure I was sleeping until at least noon on Saturdays unless I had to get up earlier to go to work at McDonalds. . Late August I started (community) college and all of this countdown reminds me of that. I love the Helen Reddy and ONJ and Janis Ian songs. I thought there would be three Neil Sedaka songs in the countdown but it looks like The Captain and Tennille had just fallen out of the Record World Top 40. They still had three weeks to go in Cash Box! That’s pretty good when a song is getting tons of airplay on Memorial Day and is still in the Top 40 on Labor Day. Or at least it was pretty good back then in the good old days.

It is Labor Day here in the U.S. , a day that many consider the end of Summer, and here is the Top 40 pop singles from Record World magazine from the issue dated September 12, 1970. There are a few songs during hour 1 that did not make the Top 40 in Billboard and, of course, the song at the top of the chart did not reach that position on AT40. archive.org/details/rwc-1970091201

As always, Joe your efforts are greatly appreciated.

Meant the songs were cringe worthy. When a survey includes both "Run Joey Run" and "Rocky"... I'm thankful that "Seasons in the Sun" wasn't from this time period. Joe's stuff is always top drawer.

I don't know sometimes something I say may be less than 'top drawer', but as far as the music on a particular show--some one was buying or requesting those songs at the time or they wouldn't have made the charts.

Whoooooosh I did nail one of the songs to which you were referring, though. Now how in the world did I guess that?

Wow I have never heard - or heard of - the #14 song in the brand new countdown, Joe. #14! Which drawer did that 45 come from? Then the song at #13. Yikes I may have heard that one a few times. Not a lot of oldies airplay for those two songs through the years. In fairness, though, they were pretty obscure artists.

Just listening to the 05/01/1976 show and realized that the opening to Happy Music by the Blackbyrds inspired the Popeye's Chicken jingle.

And the opening to Dream Weaver sounds something like the opening to Also Sprach Zarathustra by Deodato. And Johnnie Taylor says "girl you oughta be on TV and Soul Train". IIRC that was where Soul Train was, on TV.

Wow I just listened to it again. Joe or someone must have gone in and edited it since yesterday. I could have sworn he sang "and". Oh well. Maybe it was too loud for my eardrums yesterday.

Here is a countdown from 50 years ago--October 16, 1971 from Record World magazine. While there are no unique songs in the show, listen carefully to see what songs reached the top spot in RW that didn't make it to #1 in Billboard (and consequently on AT40). archive.org/details/rwc-1971101601
